Fun with guns aka the MP 40

Post by Longcolt44 »

Not the original full automatic from WWII but the remake semi-automatic by German Sport Gun made in 2016. Since this has no folding shoulder stock like the original model it is considered to be a pistol. I had been wanting one of these for some time but nobody had imported them for a while and no used ones were to be found it looked like my collection would have to do without one. Then American Tactical Imports brought some in and Atlantic Firearm distributed them I jumped on one.

Due to the weather here and the Covid virus quarantine, I haven't been able to shoot it yet but the magazines, (Yes I bought an extra one), are loaded and my Club has reopened so this week looks good to go. The magazines hold 25 rounds each in case you wondered and I will add a range report to this post when I get to the club and empty both of them.

Is that plastic Chuck? How accurately can this be shot without the stock, and can a stock be installed? Never heard of one of these before, interesting find.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

No not plastic, it's made of good German steel. It is almost an exact copy of the original MP 40. As it was made as a pistol with no stock like the original to add one now would be a violation of ATF rules. Here is a picture of the real MP 40 machinegun.

No, by adding a folding stock it makes it a "short-barreled rifle" and therefore comes under ATF rules and you need a special permit just like you need for a fully automatic firearm.

Very nice. I missed GSG making them in pistol form. I'll have to keep an eye out for one of those. Now that would be something worth getting a tax stamp for and having done up as a Short Barreled Rifle.

Thinking about picking up one of these just to play with. Select fire, folding stock, no license required since it is a CO2 powered BB gun with a 52 round magazine capacity. My LSG wants $200.00 for one, says they are a blast. Might be fun for the grandkids once I get to the point of not hovering over them while they are shooting the Red Ryder.
