1944 Round REec. Tik 91/30 sniper

Post by michaelangelo »

A number of years ago I bought a Tik 1944 Finn sniper. It has a round receiver with all matching numbers. The bolt has the proper turned down cocking handle. The gun is basically brand new. The Russian scope is also dated 1944. The serial number is close to 56000. It was an import gun. I bought it from the man who opened the crate the rifle came in. He said it had the scope on it when he opened the box. Any thoughts?

Without pics there is no way to be 100%, but there has not been any documented legit Finnish/Tikka made PU snipers. However there have been a few CAI reproductions.

Who is CAI? I am primarily a German collector and this rifle was a stretch just because it was SA marked. I have one other Finn marked rifle A Carcano Model 38. What you told me is what I had heard. Is CAI a foreign company?

CAI is Century Arms International and is an importer/manufacturer of firearms in the United States.

I don't see a case of rifles, from the armories, coming with nineteen 91/30s and one PU sniper, regardless of the Finn Connection. The Importers, of which CAI was the largest, uncrated all of the rifles, and import marked them. Anyone who believes that they did not cherry-pick for rare models at the time is very optimistic. It is not likely that the Finn PU is an authentic military issue rifle, but who knows, people also win the lottery against very long odds.

This rifle was cherry picked by an employee.

The employee was short of cash and sold it. Later he wanted it back.

It's just a story until pics are posted to document it as legit, or not.
