Riots...
Tucson had a small scale riot downtown Friday evening as a result of the inappropriate police action on Monday in Minneapolis. As a government employee who has been formally trained on use of force and how to deal with suspected counterfeit currency, I can say that the officers involved acted inappropriately. The suspect had apparently been accused of attempting to use counterfeit currency to buy cigarettes. Evidently, the suspect was initially resistant when arrested but witnesses reported that he was compliant once handcuffed.
As for why the police had arrested the suspect, I do not know. Proper protocol would have been for the shopkeeper to take the suspect currency and. report the incident to the police. The police should have made a report and forwarded the report and suspect currency to the Secret Service and copies of the report to the prosecutors office, detectives and shopkeeper.
The protest here took place about several blocks from my townhouse. Tucson Police Department responded appropriately with officers in riot gear. They stopped the movement of the protest and ordered the protesters to disperse as it had become a small scale riot (a few broken windows and graffiti but no arson). Pima County sent out an internal communique to all county employees, informing us of what happened last night and directing us to avoid certain locations tonight, as intel predicts that another protest/riot will occur. One of the areas named is Downtown-where I am. Since I can’t avoid Downtown, appropriate measures have been taken and I will be on heightened alert tonight.

Re: Riots...
That sounds like a situation were the arsenal would be coming out of the vault. Keep the lights off and the fire extinguishers handy, stay low to avoid stray rounds passing through the walls. Good luck.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Riots...
The arsenal got prepared this morning. Only one light is on downstairs and that is to permit me to see anyone entering the house from a covered area on the second floor. The floor plan of the house is such that I can pin someone down in the living room and kitchen with defensive fire from the second floor. Only access to the second floor is via an open interior stair that can be well defended from the second floor.
Police department has closed several streets and roads and the police helicopter has been overhead for awhile.

Many of these rioters are being bused into major metro areas. They are there not to protest but to cause chaos an do damage!

Re: Riots...
We have and are having protests here in Cincinnati. Curfews have been set as dick heads not protesters raided and broke in to and burnt a couple businesses, 50+, Friday night. Rumors have it these dick heads are being bussed in from out of state but who knows at this point. Over 200 people have been arrested so far on curfew violations tonight alone. Last night a bullet hit a policeman's ballistic helmet and the police are not taking any shit from anybody, can't blame them.

Re: Riots...
Our governor just enacted a mandatory curfew statewide under his emergency powers. The curfew is effective until
June 8 from 8PM to 5AM daily. There were riots in Phoenix and Tucson (the ones in Tucson occurring within a few blocks of my house). Local police estimate the damage done to government and local businesses to be approximately $200,000. I’m not aware of the incidents in Phoenix. Saturday night, the Tucson Police Department closed off most road access to downtown Tucson. At least two law enforcement aircraft were circling over downtown all night. One was the police department helicopter and the other appeared to be a fixed wing aircraft circling at a higher altitude. Could have been a DHS aircraft.
Anyways, I got some practice time in at the range with my M1 carbine and M4 configured AR. Practiced with the defensive pistols and checked the sight alignment on my M18 with a laser. I tend to pull/push slightly to the left. Sights are aligned fine-I just need more practice.

Hard to believe, our Best Buys store was looted. It's about 1/4 mile from me here. Then they went to Kohl's which is maybe a a little further from me. The local Police went in with a lot of furry and arrested over 1/2 of them. Police told everyone in the cities around here to stay inside because they had them on the run and it might get dangerous outside.
We locked up all the doors and no one went outside today. I'm not too worried, My Son and I can handle most things that might come in the front door here! LOL
This area is a mid to upper middle class area. These people apparently came from Oakland.
Oh well.

I expect to see the Covid numbers spike because of this, and that will impact all of us as our states try and reopen.

Re: Riots...
I was listening to Michael Savage talk about the riots and he made a good point. These riots don't usually extend into the suburbs because suburban people are armed and willing to use weapons to defend their property and lives.
If the police don't control it before these rioters arrive in the suburbs, it will be quickly stopped by armed citizens.
He also mentioned that if Covid rates don't spike after this, we will all have questions for the CDC...

That's just it-I'm not in the suburbs. Fortunately, I do have a twelve foot wall in the front and a six foot wall in the back. The riots here in Tucson were less than a half mile from the house. The real reason that riots don't get to the suburbs is that they're usually too far from the city center.ksbanker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 8:30 am I was listening to Michael Savage talk about the riots and he made a good point. Fortunately, the house is well set up for defending. There are no exposed windows that can be broken without having to get over a wall. The garage has a flat roof that was originally set up to be a deck. It goes all the way to the front wall that encloses the courtyard in the front of the house. I can sit out there and see anyone coming up or down the street and can cover the access door from the street from either side.

Re: Riots...
We are about 25 miles east of Oakland.
Oakland is where these people in ouR area came from.
I laughed my ass off when the Police suspended BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) (above ground rail) in the entire Bay Area. When they did that, it turns out the bad guys had no way to go home!
They took Bart out to do what they did here. I guess they "walked home"!
Some of them were caught on Bart before they shut it down.

Re: Riots...
In 2010 I was in Tuscan working one evening and when leaving town was surrounded by anti AZ SB 1070 protesters on Congress street in front of the court house. Everyone surrounded the car waving signs that said "We Won't Comply" I did not feel threatened and actually was laughing a little. After a minute of shouting at us they let all the cars pass. I'm not sure if I would be as tolerant of a mob stopping my car someplace anymore.

Re: Riots...
This is a quote from the Polk County, Florida Sheriff, we're in Bay County here so it wasn't our Sheriff but I like this guy......
A Florida sheriff on Monday encouraged residents to open fire on violent looters who try to enter their homes.
Polk County, Florida Sheriff Grady Judd has a simple message for anyone intent on rioting, looting, or burning down homes or businesses: the Second Amendment is alive and well in the county.
Judd said there were rumblings on social media that rioters planned to bring violence into the neighborhoods of Polk County.
I would tell them, if you value your life, they probably shouldn’t do that in Polk County. Because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they’re going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told reporters during a news briefing.
“And if you try to break into their homes to steal, to set fires, I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns. So, leave the community alone.”
Not a lot of nuance there. The sheriff says a protest Sunday afternoon in Lakeland, Florida was peaceful, but Sunday evening officers received word of a planned attack on police.
Judd said protests in the county — the Lakeland area just east of Tampa and south of Orlando — devolved into “civil unrest” on Saturday and Sunday and rumors had been circulating online that rioters planned on bringing violence into the neighborhoods, according to FOX 13 News.
“We are going to hunt you down and lock you up if you engage in any criminal conduct,” Judd said…

Re: Riots...
I remember that too. I started with the Clerk of the Superior Court in 2005. Those were real protesters-they made their point, then got out of the way. They didn’t vandalize stuff or riot. They knew where the line was and didn’t cross it. I really loved it when the late Governor Raul Castro (a Democrat) voiced his opinion on the protesters who were waving the Mexican flag-“You want to wave the Mexican flag? Go back to Mexico! It’s only ninety miles that way! If you’re going to wave a flag here, you’re in America-wave an American flag!” That’s what he actually said on a tv interview.etprescottazusa91 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 6:35 pm In 2010 I was in Tuscan working one evening and when leaving town was surrounded by anti AZ SB 1070 protesters on Congress street in front of the court house. Here, the Arizona Superior Court for Pima County, Division Two of the Arizona Court of Appeals and the United States District Court are all located on West Congress Street. Superior Court is at 110 West Congress, Division Two is in the 300 block and District Court is at 400 West Congress. The crowd was probably in front of the District Courthouse, which stands opposite the federal office building on Congress Street.
Our courthouse got picketed a couple of times during the gay marriage movement. I remember the day the state attorney general announced that he would not challenge the federal court ruling that struck down the state law restriction. Our staff was directed by the Clerk of the Superior Court that we would issue marriage licenses as directed by the attorney general. During his televised statement, Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne told the Clerks of the Superior Courts that the federal court’s ruling was now the law of the land. When the local tv newshounds asked our Clerk for her statement, she simply told them that the AG said this is what the law now is and that we were bound to observe it.

That's what is going on here right now. Arizona's numbers are going up sharply. Tucson Unified School District No. 1 got the recommendations from the Arizona Department of Health Services on how to reopen schools-they're wondering how they're supposed to put the recommendations in place without additional funding. Good question.jimpierce7 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 6:19 amI see that coming too.Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 2:34 am I expect to see the Covid numbers spike because of this, and that will impact all of us as our states try and reopen.

Re: Riots...
There was last week. There are three neighborhoods downtown-El Presidio, Barrio Viejo and Armory Park. El Presidio (my neighborhood has mixed residential and commercial/office buildings. Barrio Viejo has mixed residential and commercial/office buildings. Armory Park is mostly residential. The residential buildings that were vandalized were in Barrio Viejo, which also has the Tucson Police Department offices. El Presidio has the Pima County Administration Office, Superior Court, Tucson City Hall and the library.
