Painted M44 stock...ugh!

Post by jderimig »

There is a black painted M44 stock with almost perfect metal that may be had for a low price. Is it worth it pick this up and try and strip the paint and restore the stock? Otherwise replacement M44 stocks seem to be hard to find.

No problem, by bidder name is same as my forum name here. I won't outbid you but if others jump in and they are high bidder I might enter the fray.....

I don't have a M44 yet and looking to get one cheap.

I haven't seen the auction in question, but target is right, some painted M/N stocks are original, not bubba.

You had me worried there for a moment, I thought this was another camo painted Mosin, the very height of bad taste.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I know that look, it's a stock coating Century was using on some of it's imports back in the 90's. I have seen it on M1 Garand stocks, even the buttstock of my Beretta A300 has it. It probably worked better on oil finish stocks than shellac. It was their cheap way of polishing up worn stocks. It has a slight texture to it.
