Bent bolt, untapped
Bent bolt, untapped
Hi, I'm Tim. I'm new to the forum. I recently purchased a numbers matching 1942 Izhevsk 91/30 with a bent bolt, numbers matching on the bolt but it was definitely never tapped so I believe its not an ex-sniper but why would it have a matching bent bolt? Was this something they did when they had extra parts laying around? Was it supposed to be a sniper but got rejected? I can't find any info on this situation anywhere. Also, i cant find any import marks on it anywhere. And it's super clean, near excellent condition with red stamps, date and sight numbers. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

You will need to post some pics for a definitive answer. It could have been a PE sniper, or the holes may just be hard to see. There is a link above at the top of this page, under the carbine that shows what a bent bolt should look like. Does it have extra digits on the left side of the chamber ?

Re: Bent bolt, untapped
R-Guns sold a bunch of 91/30's that they recieved from Russia that came with sniper rifle bolts but where never snipers. There is also the possibility the previous owner had the bolt made for the rifle from the original, there are several guys that do this and do nice work.
Being its a 42 Izhevsk if it is an ex-sniper it could have been either a PEM, or a PU as both where produced by them in 1942.

As Miller said here. Check to see what the import mark is. All of those bent bolt non-sniper M91/30 from RGUNS were imported by RGUNS. And their import mark is on the receiver. should read RGUNSMiller Tyme wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 4:37 am R-Guns sold a bunch of 91/30's that they recieved from Russia that came with sniper rifle bolts but where never snipers. I took some pics, I'll post them now.
Re: Bent bolt, untapped
Well, i guess i have to figure out how to resize my pictures. It appears as though the cap is 3mb and every photo is just over. Gimme a couple minutes... i got this!! Hahaha
Re: Bent bolt, untapped
I took close ups of the whole thing. There are no import marks that I can find and definitely no trace of removal. I get pictures up asap. Just have to resize them.

Re: Bent bolt, untapped
Import marks on those should be on the receiver. Check also near the end of the barrel. Usually underneath a little.

I know where they are usually marked. I have 2 other mosins and my brother in law has 3 as well. The other 5 guns are very clearly marked. This one appears to not have an import mark. I've gone over it head to toe, complete disassembly.... i know, its hard to believe, but im loading pics now. Looks like i figured out how to resize pictures!! Lol
Re: Bent bolt, untapped
I'm going to load them in groups of 5. Its not letting me do the all at once.

As for import marks.... this picture, if you look all the way to the left, on the very top, you can barely make out the serial number that appears to be what an importer would do but theres nothing else just this faint serial number.

That's not a sniper bolt, that's bubbas home made bent bolt. compare it to this bolt on a 42 Izhevsk PU sniper

Re: Bent bolt, untapped
We get a lot of new owners and we treat everyone the same. We offer them the same information on were to find the import marks. I have no idea how long you have own a Mosin or how many.76TimX54r wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:02 amI know where they are usually marked. I have 2 other mosins and my brother in law has 3 as well. As Miller said, that is a fake sniper bent bolt. I find the finish interesting. But it does have the "red lettering" what ever that means.

Cool. Thank you for your help! This has been driving me nuts and its good to finally have some closure to the bent bolt. If you dont mind, what about the finish is interesting? So I know for future purchases and general knowledge. I appreciate any little piece of information I can get. And thank you again.

The finish is to "clean/pretty" is not the typical Russian finish one would find on refurb.
