Colombian Mausers

Post by capt14k »

Recently acquired these two Colombian Mausers. Both may have possibly been used by Communist Guerillas?

The first one is pretty rare. A FN1940 Colombian. These were made to Coolombian specifications and have some different attributes. One is the concaved crossbolt. According to the new FN Mauser book the stock is not correct, but according to collectors in Europe it is correct. I was told many are found in the same stock there. That these stocks were used while rushing them out the door before the Germans invaded. Either way stock has been with it awhile and I like the trench art. Stock is not numbered but has FN proof marks. Barrel, bolt, and receiver are matching.

The second is a more common FN1950 converted to .30-06. stock has some poly on it but also some script writing and what looks like a name. I didn't find a number on the stock but the receiver, barrel, and bolt also match. Crest is in really nice condition.

Cool rifles, Bub? Bub? A Columbian communist gorilla fighter, fierce, the terror of the jungle, named Bub, short I would assume for Bubba? I guess he got fired from his job at Guns "R" Us after one too many hack jobs on a customers rifle, then moved south and got recruited into the peoples army, were he defaced his weapon.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yeah I am hoping BUB is initials like FARC but my guess is some redneck put that there. The star and sickle on the other side is what I was referring to.

Here is my Columbian 30.06 mauser with a crest I've never seen. Different than any crests in balls mausers of the world. It's also marked .30 m2 versus just .30. The R Famage stamp is a fancy script vs the block lettering often seen on these guys. Low serial number too. I'm pretty sure it was a FN 1940 before the conversion.

Nice.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Thanks....it is honestly one of the finest shooting milsurp rifles I have. Very light 2 stage trigger that'll surprise you when you shoot. And in pretty cherry condition. Thought I had pics of the r.famage stamp on my phone but I don't. I'll get a pic of it and post it.

I like 'em!

South American Mausers don't get the respect they deserve; they are the Rodney Dangerfield of Mausers. It is like folks think that they were hammered out of bean cans in a blacksmith's shop in Tijuana.

Actually most South American Mausers are some of the highest quality made. Majority were made in Germany by Mauser, DWM, Loewe, et al, Belgium by FN, and Czech Republik. A few were made in Spain. Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia reconfigured and rearsenaled their own models. Mexico made their own models after I believe 1931.

hahahahahaha it is true! People have mental pictures of Khyber Pass guns when they hear South American Mauser.

I honestly didn't know people thought like that. Hopefully they continue to think that way till I get my Bolivian and Costa Rican. The 1935 Brazilian and 1935 Chilean are some of the finest Mausers ever produced by Mauser

Have you got any 7x57's ? I'm thinking about a 1908 Columbian. I mean Brazil.

I have a few Brazilians. Not the best pic. I just completed my Brazilian collection. The 1908 is a good shooter. The 1935 is even better.
