Kari Prager reload information
Kari Prager reload information:
Hogden H380 powder 50 grains
Sierra .311 DIA. 303 cal 150 GR. Spitzer
"I gave you was a very conservative load, and you could almost certainly go up to 50 grains and throw 25 grains twice. That is still a conservative load with .308 bullets in a bigger bore diameter, bumping the bullet size up to .311 will raise pressures a little bit but not so as you have to worry. You should see a velocity of around 2550 fps, which is a good velocity for accuracy. anything around 2600 fps tends to be pretty good"
"The maximum load for 150 gr. Sierras in .308 is 54.3 gr.,and a generally recommended rule of thumb is to start about 10% below that and work up"
"I've had good luck with slightly heavier charges and .311 Sierra or .312 bullets."
"If you wanted to shoot at an excellent velocity for accuracy as a rule you could load your .311 Sierras with 50.5 gr. for an honest 2600 FPS. This load is right on the money for target shooting, and I think you would get good results.Of course every rifle is different."
Hornady is the ONLY loading manual that distinguishes between .308 and .312 bullets and loads.

He gave me some 6.5x55 loads and sold me a bunch of supplies dirt cheap. I miss old Kari.

He sold me 2 6.5x55 die sets, one a 3 die set with the crimp die, and another neck size only set, 500 Sierra match King bullets, some powder, and about 10 boxes of .22 match ammo for a grand total of $75.

Re: Kari Prager reload information
While discussing Enfields with him one day over the phone he asked if I had any grandkids which I said I had two granddaughters and one grandson living in the same city as myself. Three or four days later there was a long skinny package on my door. A note inside said, "For your grandson". He had sent me an Ithica model 49 falling block single-shot .22 rifle for him. There are damn few men like he was.

Fuckheads proliferate all around us, while the few good people go early. His doctors didn't have a clue, not the first time I have seen that happen.

Re: Kari Prager reload information
I was in the process of buying a rifle from him. A Swiss K31 when he suddenly passed. I didn't hear from him for 2 days so I called and Gail answered his phone. That was a bad day. I can't think of all I got from him at the moment. A Lee loader in 45-70 and also one in 7.65x53 Mauser for a Argentine Mauser. Lots of brass, a excellent book called 45 years with 45-70
So Darryl are the loads you got from Kari above for the 7 62x54r or are those 303 British loads?

Re: Kari Prager reload information
They are loads he developed for his M39. He was helping me learn how to reload. That was my first attempt at reloading. He lived maybe 25 minutes from me here. We used to go to the same "honey hole" for out C&R''s. They knew him very well. He was there maybe 2 or 3 times a week.bunkysdad wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 10:17 pm I was in the process of buying a rifle from him. A Swiss K31 when he suddenly passed. Re: Kari Prager reload information
Yes, these guys at his honey hole let him being home a M39, which he disassembled and meticulously photographed every square inch. He said to me this one isn't perfect but not too bad. I looked over about a hundred pictures he sent me. I bought it for 300.00 plus 50 for shipping which included a new hard case. It is a 1898 antique receiver. I love this rifle.
