For Rodina! Forward! Urrrrrah!
For Rodina! Forward! Urrrrrah!
Yea, I may have been reading too many Soviet biographies of the Second World War. Speaking of Bios, I just reread Notes on a Russian Sniper by Zaitsev. Towards the end of the book, he makes a reference to suggest that at Stalingrad the old boy was not using a PE or a PU, but an SVT-40. I have the book in an electronic format or I would site the exact location of the reference. Unlike paper books it is not so easy to go back and hunt up quotations. What do you guys think about that?
Here are the cream of my Russian Collection, (two hot war and one cold war version) I just built a display rack for them, for the glory of Rodina, of course....

Was his SVT-40 scoped ? That would be bad ass as a Devil Dog with a M-14 sniper.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I recently read Lady Death, the memoirs of Lyudmila Pavlichenko.
She used a a 91/30, and was later presented with SVT-40 by the commanding general of her division .
Although only in action for about one year before being wounded, and posted to be an instructor of snipers, she is credited with 309 confirmed kills although there were probably more.
She died in 1974, and today is recognized as one of the top 5 snipers of all time, and the top female sniper.

He does speak about scopes, and the use of scopes, throughout the book. Before the comment that I spoke about, he made many comments about, he and his fellow snipers using "several magazines" in certain scenarios which I thought was a curious comment if dealing with a 91/30 but put it down to a translation problem.steelbuttplate wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 12:19 pm Was his SVT-40 scoped ? The book really does not unfold like Enemy At the Gates at all. I recommend the book as a great read.

The PPS 43 is like an Uzi you can hunt with. I'd like to try a 7.62
