Stock question

Post by steelbuttplate »

Does a Danzig Gew 98 fit the same stock as a K-98?

Why do you need to know? Something happened to your GEW98?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

When I see a rifle still full length and original sights or bases at least, but its been put in a Monte Carlo stock, It makes me start looking for ways to restore it. I can't help it I must be a restorador or something.

I suppose it would fit although the Gew98 is a full sized battle rifle vs the Kar98 which is a short rifle. Would look ridiculous and humped. Best to wait for a stock to come along. I suspect that many Turk stocks would fit the bill but I wouldn't stake my life on it. I'd really walk right by a Gew98 in a Monte Carlo stock. Who does such things? :beek:

It was the Damn Bubba again, he didn't make it irreversible though. I'm looking k-98's now that Bubba done. It breaks my heart to see them fucked up that way but most were done long ago. Drop the hacksaw punk, or do you feel lucky today ?

Just watch eBay until a correct German stock comes along, might take years, but so what. Did you try Liberty Tree?

I know what you mean. The most beautiful stock of any rifle I have ever owned was on an Argentine model 91 Mauser. It was drop dead gorgeous, with beautiful figuration, it was so pretty it could have hung in an upscale art gallery, serial matching to an all matching rifle that was in near perfect condition, and some asshole cut the stock off in front of the front barrel band with a hacksaw. It was enough to make you want to cry. For ten years I looked for a stock to no avail. Even had I found a stock, it would not have matched the rifle. I finally sold it as a shooter, and it was a fine shooter. I have two nice 91/30 stocks that I got when they were dirt cheap, I have been looking for a cheap barreled receiver or bubba'd rifle, but those have disappeared too. I have put the hiatus on trying to save dead guns, it is just a frustrating experience. I suspect I will end up putting the stocks on ebay to get rid of them.
