PU sniper for noobs?

Post by 24 ID »

I have owned a few PU sniper rifles over the years, Soviet and Yugo. They were nice.

But I ended up selling them eventually because I was intimidated by the optics arrangement. I don’t know how they work.

For instance, I wondered: will the big screw that holds the scope in place come loose with firing? If so, how do I lock it in place in such way that does not alter a collectible firearm? Can finger-tight to snug it in place really hold it zero?

I didn’t know the answer or how to resolve the issue. I also don’t know how to sight-in/zero or adjust the scope.

I would like a sniper, I think, but where do I find the info needed for an uneducated noob to get started, properly?

Thanks in advance for any help ...

Top of this page, under the carbine, sniper rifles. Much info.

You owned several and didn't come up with those questions and answers before? Just curious.

The large screw was made to allow the fast and easy removal of the scope. It doesn't rattle loose.

There are two screws just in front of that large "knob" screw. One facintg up, and one down. Those screws are typically "staked so they don't move. That allows the scope mount to be removed and replace and stay relatively in the same position each time....."zeroed"

Yes, I did.

Asked these questions on a well-known Mosin website/board which shall not be named - an older site that has turned to sewage.

Was mocked as a “dummy,” ridiculed, etc. No answers of usefulness or substance, given. Zero help. It was like a middle school experience.

Was encouraged to come here by capt14k, a dear friend. I lurked and read for awhile before registering.

Were it not for him and for this site, I would have given up and quit Mosins, entirely.
