Is this a Hungarian M-44?

Post by Murmeli »

Hello
I am not sure if I have correctly identified my new Mosin nagant as a freshman.
Think this is a Hungarian M-44 from 1952 but from too little experience to say that for sure

It has an 02, it is Hungarian.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

The crest between the serial # and the 1952 is also an indicator
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

That's what you look for in a Hungarian. The internals and magazine internals should also be stamped. I think that somewhere I made a picture of all the Hungarian matching points. Is the gun matching?

Barrel, Bolt, Bottom plate and piston plate match the serial number ....
The bolt lacks the AI prefix

Likely a refurbishment out of Cugir, Romania... That would explain the restamped bolt. There are probably other markings that I haven't found yet, but this pretty much covers what I look for...

There are 02 marks everywhere. Username 7x57 has a post with what all the 02 marked parts should be and which parts should be numbered

Was not that difficult a Mosin apart .... :chuckles:
Have checked all 0.2 markings. One is missing on the 0.2 on the rear sight.

What a shame! Good enough... You can always send it to me if displeased... BTW, it's "02" not 0.2. I believe 02 was the Warsaw Pack country code assigned to Hungary. 11 for Poland. Romania just copied (almost) the Izhevsk stamp and called it a day...

May still stay with me
02 is the Eastern bloc country code for Hungary and "Circle B" stands for Budapest Arsenal.
But it's true 02 and not 0.2 sorry...
