Lowerish end Red Dot?

Post by Katryah »

So I kind of want to add a small red dot to the Sub-2000 but besides that fact that I can't afford the high end Aimpoint , Eotech, Trigicon, Leopold or anything else in those price ranges I just think they are a little above what i really need (to spend).

I would like to know what you guys have tried or played with in cheap end optics and what has or has not worked with then. I am mostly looking at smallish red dots but would consider something with a little magnification. in the mid range i have looked a little at vortex and holosun. on the lower end there is Burris, sightmark, bushnell and a bunch of no names. Spikes has a red dot called Black Spider Optics that looks promising as well. anyway what are you thoughts?

I don't have any experience in inexpensive red dots, or holographics, but my experience with all optics is you get what you pay for. It is a waste of money to buy a product that does not hold zero.

You may want to look at Vortex Sparc. It's a medium priced Chinese optic that's well know for quality. I have a first generation Sparc on an AK clone and I have a Sparc AR on a Colt M4 carbine. I swear by both of them and can't see paying a thousand for an Aimpoint or Trijicon.

I've been using Pinty red/green dot scopes on the last five AR builds, they've held up fine. Run around $18 on ebay. I'd say a 3MOA dot. Other than that I'd recommend the Bushnell TRS25, it has a good rep for a lower priced red dot.

I have BSA red dots on both my Mini 14s, they do the job and hold zero so far. I paid under $50 for them on sale but I can't remember where I bought them.

Be careful of low-end optics on your shotgun... they may not survive the repeated recoil. Sometimes, you get what you pay for and you just have to shell out the extra $$$ to get one that will withstand the beating.

What did you end up trying. I thinking about getting one if you got a good one.

I've beat the snot out of a few different Primary Arms red dots and they have held up perfectly, including on my VEPR 12 gauge. Highly recommended.
