I bought one two years ago and there was the info on a slip under the butt plate. I sent a copy of it to the Swiss Embassy in San Francisco. I thought perhaps the guy was still alive or his family would like the gun back. A few weeks later I get a reply from the Embassy. The guy was long gone and the family thanked me for the offer but didn’t want it back. Happy to keep it. It’s a great shooter.Lavitias wrote:Unfortunately no

Yes, but at least that lot are just eating their own brains, not mine.Lavitias wrote:To late it already has JYD just look at everyone walking around with their face stuffed into their phone.Junk Yard Dog wrote:You know, I recall reading of someone saying if enough people say something is going to happen, and say it enough times then in some magical way it somehow becomes reality and happens. Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

So I thought this thread was over but convinced the dealer to give me the troop tag that originally came with my gun I'll add it's picture to this thread this weekend

Personally, I wouldn't buy a K31 where the dealer is removing the tags under the butt. That is not his job and he should "butt out" (pardon me for that one). But why does he feel it is his duty to do that. I have one under my butt plate and have never decided to call the people. But I still want it there. It's part of the rifle.

Long story short Dolk I guess a family called him once and gave him a ear full over someone trying to contact their dead grandfather. So it seems in the interest of not ruffling feathers he removes the ones where the service member can be confirmed as deceased. I however basically told him I don't want to talk to the service member but more it's just as much as part of that rifle as anything else is.dolk wrote:Personally, I wouldn't buy a K31 where the dealer is removing the tags under the butt. Still doesn't make sense. 1) How is it possible that the family in Finland Switzerland could possible know he sold the rifle? If the person who bought it wrote them, why would they include his name and address of the seller? 2) Why would he care (seller)?Lavitias wrote:Long story short Dolk I guess a family called him once and gave him a ear full over someone trying to contact their dead grandfather. If I sold my K31, the taq would go with it. If the people who buy it from me decide to contact them, that is their business. I would have no contact with the family at all. If the family contacted (and I don't know how) then they need to know that is part of the history of that rifle. Sorry, I would change anything I purchased on a rifle. Now I might add a note with it asking them not to bother this family as they don't want to be disturbed. But the tag stays with the rifle.
Tome, it sounds like your dealer you bought it from was contacting families to be able to add history to the rifle. That would make it more valuable to him. I could see that. Certaily you would get a few rejectins from familiesbut I'd bet not many. From what I have heard, the families were thrilled to know where Grandpas rifle was. not mad. Fact is, this dealer seems to be trying to make some extra cash on it.
Re: K31 Followed me home Friday
Dolk why would you contact someone in Finland about a Swiss rifle ? And that might be the case but I actually got it for over a 100 under the tag price ;)
