Chinese Public Security SKS

Post by Greasemonkey »

Even though it's a Norinco import, this version is known as a Chinese Public Security SKS. As I understand it the Chinese Security Forces are like their Gestapo or Stassi, if they come get you they keep you, it's not good. A Chinese Security SKS is a Type 56 Carbine produced at one of three specific state-owned/controlled arsenals expressly for issue to soldiers of the National Public Security Forces and are marked as such. It has two two Chinese ideographs on the right side of the receiver. Also, the bolt carrier is a very dull matte finish. They are identified by arsenal /26\, /016\, and [0141], all though a few others have been noted, those are the most common. They only were imported through KFS (Keng’s Firearms Specialties) located in Georgia. From what I have read, it was a very small (a pallet or two was the answer I got) lot that came through that importer.

My example, I believe the stock possibly got changed at some point, as most I see have a numbered stock with the rear side sling mount. But being a Chinese, who knows? This stock is an unnumbered Chinese with bottom sling hanger. The metal however is all number matching. This example is a later pin barrel model, and one thing I do notice, the finish work, trigger ect. is better than my other Chinese rifles. The other thing, maybe it's just me, it does seem slightly more accurate than many of my other SKS's on equal shooting terms.

I thought I would share, even though it is a Chinese, it is one of the more uncommon Chinese models out floating around. Figured it may help some of those who may stumble on to one and question the markings. :toast:

Cool, I remember Keng's, did some AK parts business with them long ago.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Kengs is actually still around, just not importing. I just had them verify the rarity of my Polytech sidefolder about 6 months ago. 1 of only 400 imported.

I bought Chinese AK mags from them, compared to the East German ones I got later they were crude, but they worked. Got some slings and a set of AK wood that I have yet to use. In fact it's still in the box they sent it in, I went with East German plastic on the Maddi.

Kengs is the source of the import of these SKS carbines. They were not made for the security police they were taken from stores marked with two characters on the right side of the receiver by the ejection port and issued to the armed police. As I understand it only one shipment came in and it was around 3000 in number. Several factory codes exist. It is a great collectors piece and a must have for the Chinese collector.

Thanks fellas, I was a little iffy posting a Norinco, but I figured this is one that would be rare enough to make it worth while.

1 of 3000, I knew it was only but a pallet or so but didn't know the exact number. Does or would the stock be correct, does it hurt the value much being unnumbered?

Kengs is one import stamp I don't see much of, did they just import certain models with a limited number of pieces?

Martin08, with your luck lately, you'll find one for $165 out the door   I have faith in you

Well, with everything milsurp in my collection I am a Martial Arms collector rather than just a Mosin guy, but I thank you for the compliment. We think you are fair to middlin' also

If you are a collector of Chinese sks carbines you will find out by examining them that maybe 90% that came here from China were rebuilt and in storage some may have had the stocks changed and they were not stamped hard to tell or bubba could have been there and bought a replacement stock to replace the one he sold when he put his aftermarket stock on:)

Hey guys,
I'm new here but was reasearching my newly aquired SKS and had to post. I just bought an SKS two days ago almost exactly like greasemonkey described his to be. It is marked /016\ KFS ATL GA. The serial number starts with 17,five digits to follow. It has the two chinese symbols on the right side of the receiver, and the dull grey colored bolt operater. I'm also surprised to see that all numbers are matched, including on the left side of the stock. The only real question I have about it being fully original is the receiver cover. It has an unmarked, scope mount receiver cover. It fits smoothly, but the scope rail actually looks like it isn't entirely straight with the sights. I am new to collecting guns, and this is only the second one I've purchased. My first was a 1942 Mosin 91/30. I've spent a few hours researching this SKS and am starting to believe I found a bit of a rare one that is almost entirely original. Oh yeah, I'm also missing the cleaning rod. Are there any markings on those to be aware of? Since I've seen some people now that appear to be impressed with an SKS like this, I have to wonder what its worth. I paid $275 for it at a local gun show. I would appreciate any feedback.

Welcome to the forum Mr cat. I am not sure about it being rare but $275 is a great price these days. THe SKS guys are old and already in bed
But they will let you know all about it in the morn. If you have fotos to post that would help them out. WE have the best experts in the country right here for the SKS and the mosins so you have come to the right place. :alien: :D

Welcome to the forum  As for being an expert, I'm far from it, but the receiver cover is aftermarket. If you could find the original or possibly a unnumbered cover, you would be better off in the long run(just to reduce the urge to mount a scope  ). It will shoot fine either way, just more for cosmetic purposes. The price you paid was a good one, truthfully I wouldn't have a clue on the going rate for these models, other than the average price for a plain Chinese SKS seems to be 275 to 375 depending on location.

Post some photos, we all love photos :toast:
