M1 Carbine, Newest Addition!

Post by Need More Mausers »

Hey Folks, it's been a while but I'm back with some fun news! Just picked up my 3rd surplus rifle and my first American one at that!

What I've gathered is that I have a mixed parts Standard Products M1 Carbine, that was built (receiver at least) in 1943, then sent to Korea at some point later on due to the Excel import Mark who only dealt with South Korean imports I believe.

The overall quality of the rifle seems pretty solid, with a good bore. The only real issue is the pictured crack near the wrist of the rifle, but it doesnt move or budge when pressure is applied so I will keep a look out for that when I fire it for the first time (unless you wouldn't reccomend it).

It is a mixed bag, but it's a USGI carbine. And for $450, I couldnt pass up my favorite US milsurp rifle. Look forward to shooting it!

Thoughts?

:vcool: Tough little piece of machinery there. I'm still looking, I got the love for them growing up in the 60's getting to shoot one full auto sometimes. :vcool:

Cool! Remember to research it, often times manufacturers had to supply parts to each other to keep up production when there were problems so sometimes the parts mix can be as originally issued. I forget the parts mix expected in a standard products, but could be the Rock-Ola barrel and slide are correct. War baby's, they are fun little carbines to shoot, we are the only country to issue a legit carbine, most everybody else just cut down and lightened the full size infantry rifle and called it a carbine while retaining the full size cartridge.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
