Welcome to the board, I know that rifle, I have one still in the grease 12 years after I bought it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Beware the little button on the gas tube. It will make it a bolt action if its in the wrong position.2700fps wrote:Hi

That rifle should shoot 3" groups @ 75 yds, make sure the night sights are flipped down.steelbuttplate wrote:Beware the little button on the gas tube. It will make it a bolt action if its in the wrong position.2700fps wrote:Hi

Yea. I’m old blind and was hitting a 10” steel plate today with it.
It easily outshot one of my Mosins today....

Beware wear on the gas valve. Mine wouldn't shoot worth a damn when I bought it used from the local gun store. Did the wire test and confirmed that the gas valve was eroded to the point that it had excessive leakage. Replaced it and the thing runs like a top.

My Yugo 59/661A1 model is a heavy stocked carbine for sure compared to others with a thinner stock like my Russian. As for the gas cut off and grenade lunch sight, when the ladder sight is folded down it is actually covered by the edge of the gas cut- off selector knob when the gas flow is open.
