Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the site, thanks for the access.
Only have one Mosin Nagant so far and only put 20 rounds thru it. Has a few issues, but nothing major.
It's proving to be a fun gun right now (M44) and learning a few things to make it work better.
Let the fun begin I guess
Best regards
Burn :-)

The last photo shows some German stamps, maybe importer marks. Something kinda rare. One of the Admin. needs to weigh in . They know stuff.F1llarov_graves wrote:Hi all
I just got a Ishevsk M38 1943 production with very strange markings.
Do any of you recognize any of these markings?

Somebody chime in about these German import marks ( last photo) please. I've seen them before but can't really comment on them.steelbuttplate wrote:The last photo shows some German stamps, maybe importer marks. Something kinda rare. One of the Admin. needs to weigh in . Hi, I have just been asked by my non-English speaking friend to find something about his new Izhevsk 1903 rifle. I tried to google about it a lot, but found nothing and I have a very positive experience with forums, which helped me to find out a lot about my M40 German helmet.
Could I ask you, if you own an original 1903 non-modified rifle, to send me a photo of it? My friend would like to know how did the original stock look like. He has a suspicion that his rifle has a different stock and we have nothing to compare it with. All pics I have found were of modified rifles.
His mosin's serial number is between 3000 and 4000.1
Thanks a lot for a possible help

You would get a better response by posting a picture of his stock in the Mosin forum here and asking if his stock is modified. Not all of our members check this introductory forum.

Hello! Glad to be here.
I'm a soon-to-be Mosin owner.
Why? 1) I recently found that I like the feel of the wood stock around the barrel, 2) they aren't as inexpensive as they used to be, but still aren't too bad on price, 3) the ammo looks like it's more available that 303 British, and 4) the history is interesting!
(I know. No. 1 is hilarious. Go nuts.
)
Are there any things to look out for besides the usual when buying online? I'd be looking for a solid shooter (hopefully under $500). I haven't ever gone to a gun show-would that be a good place to look? So far, I haven't seen any at the local shops (I'm in northern CO).
How many threads on this topic are there already? 100? 500? Could someone direct me to one?
Thanks!

I picked up my second Mosin this weekend at a show. A 1944 with SA marking. I believe this indicates a Finnish Mosin??
The barrel measures a "0" with the CMP 308 NATO "bullet gauge".
I'll ask more Q's about muzzle bore diameter later.
Thanks, Ron

Hi new to the forum & this forum format I was gifted a 91/30 for a elderly friend he said he had never shot it. it has been sporsterized & the barrel is 21 7/8 to the breech face I imagine some one has cut it down because it had a aluminum wrap around sight that was just lock tighted on & loose. I disassembled it & cleaned it it has the Izhevsk triangle with the arrow & 194437 stamped on it. The action is stamped 1936 with the same triangle. The extractor tip was broken off. I replaced it & it shoots & cycles nicely 7.62x54r chamber. The rear sight is loose on the taper, someone had it off I guess because there is no solder under it. It does not have the 2 pin holes drilled through the barrel to keep it tight. I have looked through a bunch of sites but haven’t found any pics without the holes. Maybe I will silver solder it on or I may look into a low power scope as I only shoot 100yds & can’t see the targets well With glasses. This is my first military rifle & it is fun to shoot. Thanks for the add

Looked online at lunch and see that the Finns ran a smaller bore diameter than the Russians, by 0.003".

Russian - 7.62x54R = 0.303"RonP wrote:Looked online at lunch and see that the Finns ran a smaller bore diameter than the Russians, by 0.003".

Hi All: Just got my first M39, 1944 VKT, pristine .310" bore ( I bore scoped it and it looks like it was shot only at VKT for sighting-in. Bluing still visible). Furniture has no scratches. All parts bluing are pristine. A dream military surplus rifle for me. Working up loads for best accuracy in Vintage Military Steel Silhouette matches.

Pictures needed, are you saying an M-44 ? with SA stamp ? Without pictures we don't believe it exists.RonP wrote:I picked up my second Mosin this weekend at a show. A 1944 with SA marking. I believe this indicates a Finnish Mosin??

Novice seeks advice on strange Nagant.
I've recently acquired this very strange Nagant. There are no markings on the gun, other than a few numbers stamped here and there.
The stock is quite deep with internal magazine - very compact too.
The overall quality of the gun is superb, nicely finished and well put together. The previous owner knows nothing about the gun, other than he thinks it might've been made in Hungary. I've had people say it might be Finnish. I've dismantled the rifle in search of stamps - no dice.
I'm at a loss.
I hope someone with esoteric Nagant knowledge might me able to help.
The best,
NagantNovice
