I had to give in...

Post by awalker1829 »

I finally had to give in to the urge...I bought my first AR-15. It was configured the way I wanted and the price was right.

Image

Dealer in Phoenix had it listed for $400. The lower is a Karri’s Guns KG-15 multi caliber receiver and the upper is a Bear Creek Arsenal in 5.56 NATO with the M4 carbine configuration.

I think one of the things that finally motivated me to get one (besides the anti-gun crowd hating them) was a firearms introduction class presented by the judicial security team for our local justice court for court employee continuing education. The head of the security team gave the presentation and showed us the tactical rifles and shotguns they have in their armory. The tactical rifles they use are AR-15s and they have two different tactical shotguns that they have available for use. One shotgun is safety orange and for a very specific reason-it is loaded only with less lethal bean bag shells and is only to be used when less than lethal force is required.

My AR has been to the range and functions fine. I just need to finish zeroing the iron sights in. I don’t intend to put an optic on it-I like it as is.

I remember some years back after the shooting over in Newtown the local gun shop was selling these for over $3000 and sold out in a day. I think some resold for over $4000, nothing like the suggestion of a ban to get the prices higher. None of those folks were collectors of course, or people with a long history of gun ownership/hunting, they were NYC transplants, lawyers, wall street types and dentists. You have to wonder what they think of their $3000-$4000 rifles now that the prices are a more sane $400-$500. Bet you a Benny that few if any of them ever fired their rifles or the almost as expensive pistols the dealer thoughtfully pointed out that they needed if they had applied and been approved for a NYS handgun license. Well, at least they have them should I ever have to requisition one out of their closet, or attic after the dead start walking.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

After you shoot it a while, you might decide what I did. The AR is pretty awesome and as a package, hard to beat, but it is not a vintage .30 Cal battle rifle. They are just different, and I will have both thank you.

That ones staying put for now. Got it locally a few years back for under $800. It still had the Woolworth’s price tag on the buttplate. Took it out to the range today and had some fun.

I've had great results from all the Bear Creek barrels that I've bought. Was really amazed at the accuracy of the 7.62x39 one even with cheap steel cased ammo. I've got two with their side-charging uppers as well. They've come a long ways from the junk Moore Machine Company AR's that they flooded the market with during the Obama regime.

Yeah, it’s a tool. 223/5.56 is fine for close quarters shooting. 30 cal/M2 is for when you need to reach out and touch someone at a distance or want assured knockdown power.

Yep. Obama was the world’s best gun salesman. Production couldn’t keep up with demand. Now that demand has slowed, the manufacturers have to compete on quality for value.
