laminate on SCW
Isn't that incorrect? A laminate stock is only a Russian refurb thing isn't it?

It's not correct, Laminates didn't come out until late 44, early 45 IIRC.

So would it be wrong to put the SCW into 1930's Stock 'to restore ?
Re: laminate on SCW
If it were in a chopped stock, any full length stock would be better, but not necessarily correct. If the original stock is complete, but is beat, or less than lovely, leave it as is. it has probably come by its wear honestly.Ed55fl wrote:So would it be wrong to put the SCW into 1930's Stock 'to restore ?

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Laminate on an SCW is totally wrong. To be correct you would need a prewar stock that had no finish put on it. SCW stocks are unique in that way. Very similar to the stocks that came out of Romania. Simply removing the shellac from a refurb stock wouldn't do it since, in most cases, they were sanded smooth before the finish was applied. SCW's seem to have and "unsanded" look to them. If you are looking at a gun that is for sale that is in the laminate stock, I'd pass on it. Think I saw something like this recently in the auctions. Even had the "USSR" stamp on the receiver.
