Springfield April of 1945
I finally did it, after many years without one I broke down and sent the CMP some cash and they sent me back a very nice Springfield M1 dated April of 1945. We have had several M1's come through the shop but none really got my attention for one reason or another. The receiver and barrel date the same of April 1945 and by the muzzle and throat readings it has a lot of life in this old girl. I did luck out and get a new matching stock. The stock is stamped with the Anniston, Alabama Arsenal cartouche which I sorry to say won't photograph. Just for info, this is a "service" grade, the middle grade of what CMP has and only took just one day short of a month to get on my doorstep. Enjoy.

Sweet. Looks like Mr. Bear really likes that one.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Mine is a "June 45" and I would not trade it for another, a keeper. That one should be a dandy.Sonny wrote:Very nice.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yes that's a keeper.steelbuttplate wrote:Mine is a "June 45" and I would not trade it for another, a keeper. That one should be a dandy.Sonny wrote:Very nice.
On another note up here in Canuckistan all semi auto rifles mags have to be pinned to 5 rounds. However they made an exception for the M1 and 8 round enblocs are perfectly legal.
Going price for one up here is in the $2000 - $2200 range... I'm on a pension now so that kinda leaves me out.
