Re: 91/30 on Gunbroker?
$250-$300 does tend to be the average price for a Soviet 91/30 refurbished rifle if that is what is in the auction. Slightly more if it's a hex receiver, or older date ex dragoon, laminated stock, or has welded over holes indicating it was once a sniper. I can tell you from experience that it was really nice to pay $40-$60 for these rifles once upon a time, but that time has long passed.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

When a sniper rifle was taken out of service they welded over the holes in the receiver and used it as an infantry rifle. This was arsenal done by the Soviets, they would have redone the heat treating if necessary.Ed55fl wrote:Yes I remember the good old days. Have a Mosin shipping case with 18 91/30's in. Got the olive drab wood crate with 18 rifles and need two more to top it up? The time for that was 2006, now the last two rifles will cost what half the others cost you back in the day. The welded holes rifles, ex snipers , are sought after by collectors, and will command higher prices. They just have a bit more history than the regular 91/30's.

Finnish m-39's were selling for $300 average just two yrs ago. Now $600. I think $300 is the new average price for an average Russian rifle. With the economy booming and retailers nearly depleted , that will continue to go up.Ed55fl wrote:Can anyone tell me why this rifle is worth over $300 List as "Russia Mosin Nagant M91/30 bolt rifle 7.62x54r" ??

It's called "Supply and Demand". When plentiful, they were cheap. Now with sanctions stopping importation, there are no more coming in, at least not stacks and stacks of crates. Rather a dribble here and there. Demand is still there, so the prices go up. I can remember barrels full of Enfields and 1903's for $40 too.

I only started collecting milsurp guns about three years ago. My first was a Mosin and I paid $189 out the door. I now see them as high a $450 for nothing specail about the gun.

What the current pricing has done is stop the collecting en-mass of every model milsurp rifle. But still if you don't have one at all of a particular model then if you have to pay the price once to have one and enjoy it then I still see the value in buying one. Someday if it is kept in unaltered condition you might be talking about a 600 or 800.00 rifle. That is where we are now on some Enfields and Swiss rifle now.
