So i picked this one up yesterday after a day trip with my father to get the G43 i convinced him to get. Ironically i think the guys own the shop know i like old milsurps but my fathers the one with the $$$$ so everytime we go they bring out something cool and bring it to me first like they did with this.

Needless to say i want it but wayyyyyyyyy out of my budget.

After that we stopped at this little shop 20 miles further north that always has a good selection of milsurps. They had a m39 for 400 but the stock was sanded as was the stock on the VKT m91 they had sadly. they did have a 1924 Spanish Mauser for 169 bucks though, dunno if bubba bent the bolt or they came that way but half of me still wants to go get it. They have the best selection of ammo though, surplus 8mm, 7.5 french, Nazi stamped 8x56r in the boxes.Even .303 surplus. 7.7 jap, all the hard stuff to find!

Lastly the last store we went to had a non refurb SVT sniper? still with the scope, mad cool but again mad expensive, also they had a nice sks paratrooper, and a carcano 8mm i would have bought but i looked it up on my phone and apparent they explode.

Sounds like a place I could always be broke  Oh wait iam always broke.  Too bad they stuffed that crappy import stamp there but still a nice revolver :vcool: :vcool: What is the source on the carcano exploding? I haven't looked to much but I think they put new barrels on them when they issued them for military police and what have you. :D
Oh and what model of Spanish and what caliber?

I was thinking the same thing regarding the Nagant date, really early one. I was wondering if that one was ever in service with the White Russians or was one that went straight to the Reds?

They had two models one was a 1924 and it was shorter like the VZ24. They also had a full sized versions 195? With the mark of like the outline of a man, the earlier one didn't have this. And I looked up online quick and a few articles went on about the carcano was set up for 6.5, then brought up to a 7.65? Then stretched to a 8mm and the carcano reciever shouldn't be able to take the higher pressure. Maybe not just why I passed on it.

And the date is why I had to have it. I have a military weapons guide and the book just breezes over three years of nagant revolvers and this year is one of them

Don't know any Spanish model 24. There is the 1893 or the m1916 carbine. The m16 would have a bent bolt. :D

M16 are pretty neat but I would personaly only buy one if it was original caliber of 7mm mauser. Just my preference. Some were converted to 7.62x51. I think if it is in good condition and in 7mm then 169 is a fair price. If it is in 308 then think 129 is better. Lots of history in these also. Up to Spanish civil war and beyond.

I know this post was made awhile back but any chance you know the weapons guide you’re referencing? I just picked up a 1919 myself :)

I have a 1918 Nagant. Same refurb factory as yours but a different importer without the big billboard. I bought it from a gentleman who had it and a 1944 Nagant together at a gun show. He wanted $100 more for the 1918, so I bought the 1944. I realized my mistake a few months later and went back to trade him the 1944 plus $100 for the 1918.

Civil war years Nagants are very interesting for their markings. Just like the M91 rifles, their markings and lettering transition from imperial, to democratic, to socialist as the Russian government changed in those years. 1918-1920 Nagants are not marked as anything. They simply say, "Tula Ordinance Factory". I like that they were caught in the transition.

A lot of people say they are an underpowered gun. Take that with a grain of salt, because the military loads are more powerful than the modern PPU ammo that most people shoot. I don't shoot mine much nor do most people, but it's interesting to know the flavors of ammo available:

PPU and Hotshot: 98 grains flat nose FMJ @ 700 FPS. Pretty weak.
Original military: 108 grains flat nose FMJ @ 1100 FPS. That's almost 9x19mm energy.
Military since ~1980: 86 grains round nose FMJ @ 1300 FPS. Actually a Tokarev bullet at nearly Tokarev speed. Not shabby.

If you have not shot it yet, they are nice easy shooters with a crisp trigger on single action but are a real pain on double action. Recoil is slight even with the military loads. Quiet for a revolver because of the gas seal. They are surprisingly accurate and have a hammer block safety, so they are really secure while decocked.

I had a 1916 and 1917, I bought several from J&G when they were ...$169? Can't remember. I've kept this '25 Tula for overall condition. The 1919 would be rare like the 1919 M 91 would it ?

Ya'all made me do it....No import mark, no refurb, imperial markings intact. The right side is really thin on blue and has some pitting that resembles fingerprints. This one could have been a bring back from either war.

I am glad some of you are still finding military surplus weapons in pawn and gun shops. In the past two weeks I have been in over a dozen shops in three states I found two military surplus rifles in one shop and they were both bubba sporters. It is dry down here.

I don't find them in pawn shops and rarely in gun stores. I find them at gun shows. There are several dedicated milsurp collectors that frequent the shows around here. We exchange phone numbers and network.
