We all have our basic differences on leaving things the way we found them or cleaning and safety checking and what that involves for trips to the range in safety for you sand others around you. I have so many Finnish rifles now and have seem that so often that one or maybe even ten being cleaned will never modify history in the overall sense since most collectors know any of the conditions can and do exist on many rifle haphazardly. Therefore I have made my choices and indeed still honor the choices made by others even though I may not completely agree and worry that sometimes their inaction may actually cause damage to a rifle. This is a very personal choice and reflects only on the owner and is their choice therefore. So to each his own to my way of thinking. Bill

A very nice rifle, but I can't help wonder that if sand and pine needles are sitting on the preservative grease if it is not indicative of a rodent problem in a warehouse. The timing does not seem right for the rifle to come in from the field and then be mothballed with the sand an needles in place.

The showcase is missing a Bohler Stahl so this one will fill that gap nicely.

Maybe the Finns stuffed pine needles under the handguard as a form of bedding like how the Russian snipers wrapped oiled cloth around the barrel. :D

Looks like you have a nice piece of the Finnish homeland now, grown naturally in Finnish soil.

It must have gotten lost in the shuffle. It was nominated 2 years ago.

Millman is right. This was nominated 2 years ago and it just got lost in the shuffle at that time.

What's the deal with the sand and pine needles?
Back in the day (late 80's, early 90's) I remember coming across a couple of MN's that had sand and pine needles in them. That's when I would buy them from the SHOTGUN NEWS for $59.95 +, and just clean them up a little bit to sell. My gun buddy back then had some of these too. We would complain about how dirty they were and no one even cared to clean them properly.
Does this make them worth more money? :vconfused:

I'd say it just shows that no one has had them apart since they left Finland. I don't think it is worth a premium, but it is nice to see that and know it hasn't been monkeyed with.
