Dirty Harry gun

Post by Sonny »

So I said to wifey that I found a "Dirty Harry" gun online. A Smith and Wesson model 29...I told her that this one has a 5.5 inch barrel and Dirty Harry had a 8 3/8th inch barrel.

She looked at me and said.. "Your's is too short"..

I think she told me this before.

Looks nice. Big enough to scare, small enough to conceal...in the winter. Which is 2/3 the year I suppose up there.

I bought my Model 29 a couple of years ago and it was expensive to me then.

You know you want it. Go get it.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

No worse than the 1847 Colt Walker with the full house load. S&W N frames aren't exactly for concealment, with all the bears you have just walking around on the loose up there the .44 mag is at the lower end of the scale for defensive purposes. .454 or .500 would probably be better if you must depend on a sidearm for dealing with 800 pounds of teeth, claws, and bad disposition moving faster than a locomotive.

It's not the length of the barrel, it's where you aim it, Sonny. :bwink:

No, that is just what they will tell you.

Like JYD said, they have pills for that. Problem is, if you use those pills and your barrel stays long for more then 24 hours, you will have to take your gun into a "gunsmith" to take care of that....I guess.

I don't know too many gunsmiths that'd touch that barrel, no matter what length.

Model 29 was the first handgun and revolver I ever shot- I wasn't ready for it, and the front sight almost hit me in the forehead. took me 3 rounds to hit my target. Beautiful guns.

The best gunsmith I ever knew was a Canadian who served in the American Army during the Korean war. (His father, A Canadian officer during WWII, almost disowned him for that) He apprenticed under an old German gun maker. The man could do anything with a gun, mechanical or artistic. Compared to his skills, all the other smiths I have known were just parts changers. A few months after he died, I found out that he was gay and the "partner" he frequently spoke was not a business partner, as I assumed, but a life partner. I knew him for years and did not have a clue. The subject never came up in our conversations.....Not that it would have made any difference.
