Yugo Model 1924 I just picked up!

Post by Need More Mausers »

Hey guys, due to demand in another topic I made about the ammo recieved with rifle, here it is.

Picked up a Yugoslavian Model 1924, manuf. In 1939 (receiver) under the Military Technical Institute. It's in pretty darn good shape if I say so myself, and for my very first Mauser *hence my name* I'm extremely happy with it! The stock has been touched up/sanded slightly but the markings are still there and slightly visible.

The metal does not match, however all numbers are within only a few hundred of each other. A arsenal refurb or just a bunch of random parts thrown together by an unknown entity? There are 2 proof type Mark's under the grip so any info would be great. Also I understand that the 24/47s tend to have great bores as they were practically never used, but as a 1924 is a fantastic bore more rare? Looks brand new! PLEASE look at photos and enjoy!

Picked it up for 175 out the door and 50 for a loose can of romanian 8mm to go with it! So I think I did pretty good overall.

Damn, you did very well. So good I have to put you on the list I keep of people I hate for having Mausers with better cartouche's than mine.

Thank you! Upon further inspection I wouldn't be suprised if the stock does match, as I cant make out only the last 2 digits. Even if not, it's still damn close.

Any idea what the little (I'm assuming "K" cyrillic) stands for next to the proof mark?

Unfortunately no hopefully one of the regulars chimes in. If not maybe ask Othais at C&Rsenal since this seems like something that would be in his ball park.

It is a nice rifle and a good price! It is a shame the stock was "improved." This is more like the way the stocks should look:

UPDATE, DISASSEMBLY:

Heres some pics guys after I took it apart this morning. Gave it a good wiped down with some light oil and removed any gunk/assess for potential hidden damage.

Didnt find anything exciting (where as my mosin m38 revealed many small proofing/manufacturing marks) however did find the barrel and receiver do in fact match, so it's cool to see a non 24/47 with a great bore. Though I did sadly also see that some what appeared to be very nominal cracks from the outer side, seemed to extend further than believed when examined under the wood.

Nothing too concerning but will certainly be conscious of it when firing, cleaning etc

Any suggestions on if I want to make the wood slightly darker to its original state without messing it up?

Will a light wipe down with standard gun oil work? (Wiping up any excess of course) thanks!

Yes, stand it a dark corner for 40 years, otherwise leave it alone.

Looks nice overall. If it were mine I would be tempted to try a little wood glue in the crack but that not always the best idea, and it’s probably fine as is.

Hand oil (from use) will darken the wood [emoji106][emoji2532]
