Another home run from Miller Tyme. Nice.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Nice. What I like about these is there is never any question if it is a Bubba or the real thing. :)
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

That is a pretty slick rifle, Miller.

It is interesting that they would repair a crack in the stock rather than restocking. Waste not, want not?

If you ever need any 02 marked parts let me know. One of my last purchases had them in the mix.

If it did then they were American or South Vietnamese soldiers. Hungarian PU's are post WW2, they saw use during the Hungarian uprising in '56, and were sold to their socialist brothers in North Vietnam. So far as I know most, if not all of them here in the US are trophys brought home by our troops rotating back from South Vietnam. That is how mine got here.

No, it vanished from camp, stolen . Gunny Hathcock passed away in 1999

These days you can't trust anything. Everything needs to be fully vetted and it just doesn't happen often enough, especially with Finn Collecting. K98k collectors trust nothing. That's how it needs to be. In the last week I saw (2) Fake SA Stamped M38. One badly refinished to hide the added stamp. A poorly refinished SVT-40 with fake SA stamp. Half a Dozen humped bolt Finn and Finn Captured sold. Finally still listed last I checked a humped Czech DOV46. That was not a typo. Completely fake. Someone took a scrubbed Czech K98k and engraved numbers and codes into it. It's on Empire Arms. Scammers will pay $50 for a SA stamp and stamp away to make an extra $100. Now the have the Civil Guard 39 stamp for the stocks. As well as Tikka, VKT, SAKO, 41, and others. I've suddenly have seen an uptick in 41 stamped rifles. Wonder why that is.

To fake one of these you must first find the Hungarian 91/30, so far as I know these were imported into Canada but not here. That would make them rare and expensive for a US Bubba. You can't simply scrub off the Soviet markings and reapply Hungarian ones without spending more time and money that the effort would be worth. You would have to scrub markings from pretty much all of the parts and apply 02's to them. You would have to source the Hungarian stock, again, hard to find Hungarian stock . Then there is the quality of the build, the Hungarians built a nicely finished Mosin. Rough edges, tool marks, sloppy markings, crappy bluing, all not a hallmark of a Hungarian built rifle. Much easier to fake any of the K98's, or something Finn marked. To fake the M52 would require three times as much as you would get back out of it, and probably involve some international arms smuggling from Canada, if caught that's prison, I know CO's, the story's about prison are all true.

Unfortunately due to the way the Finns would reissue Soviet weapons to their own troops with one or two small changes and the SA stamp they are easy to fake. My Finns were all bought long ago when they were too cheap to be worth the cost of a stamp ( that didn't exist yet back then) I do have some that have very few changes from Soviet standard, or the changes that are there would require an afternoon at best to reproduce on a Soviet refurb 91/30 At this point I would never buy another Finn marked Soviet capture 91/30 unless it's cost was the same as any 91/30. I would stick to much harder to fake stuff like the M39, or other Finn exclusive built rifles.

I agree Hungarian would be very hard and not worth it. My point though was your second paragraph. Thank you.

For the record they can be imported from Canada. I just brought one in. Not as nice as the one I imported from Germany but still all matching.

But I should elaborate. Not only are Finn Captured faked, but IMO all m24rv, most Tikka M39, and some m27rv are fake. Also plenty of humped bolts. I won't touch another Finn unless I know it was purchased pre 1998 and has one owner, or I import it myself from Finland. Too many bad apples in Finn collecting here in the State. Especially those at the top.
