The LAST rifle that SOG sold.

Post by Longcolt44 »

And yes I can document it. Richard Hurdtner, owner of SOG, brought this rifle down to the shop last Saturday and instead of selling it to the shop I bought it. An 1891 Carcano long rifle. It is in it's original grease coating from when it was imported in the mid 80's. In investigating it several things indicate that it was never issued, the face of the bolt is still blued and there is still a coating of some kind on the extractor. That along with no scratches on the bolt from being racked back and forth and none on the butt plate either. I am showing it here as step one, step two will be when it is cleaned and a couple broken parts repaired. Somebody along the way broke the handle off the bolt and the front upper hand guard was broken also. In step two I will give the history etc of the 1891 Carcano rifle. Sorry some of the pictures are poor, my new camera won't be here for two more weeks, December 11, my 74th birthday. I have located the repair parts but if some body here has a bolt body, straight handle, and a hand guard let me know. I bought a fresh gallon of mineral spirits and I have a box of old tee shirts that will be donated to the cause. Enjoy.

How the hell did that bolt handle snap off without extensive damage to the rifle? I had the bayonet for this in my hands earlier tonight. Local junk store guy brought it by for me to ID it, he wants a hundred bucks, I told him $75 was more likely. Black leather sheath with 1918 date on it, rust. The only Carcano parts I have are attached to Carcano rifles.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

I have the bayonet, I bought one from a guy at the shop for $20 bucks. I also have the folding one also. Finding a straight bolt body is looking thin.

I don't know much about Carcanos. Saying that, will this work?

Sweet Chuck! I have a feeling there's a real nice looking rifle under all that goo and years of sitting around.

Thanks but that one has a different type extractor. I found one on eBay that will do just fine. The Rifle hand guard is proving to be elusive to say the least.

Is SOG closing ?
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Yes they've sold all of the firearms and lately were just selling mostly the remainder of the stuff they had. viewtopic.php?f=105&t=31290

Didn't even know Milford had one lol. Only one I've dealt with in that area is Palmer in Dayton and that was only for my PSL lol.
