they may be high where you are, but theyre on par where I am... I bought a hex Izhevsk for $349 a few weeks ago, with no sling, tools, or bayonet... Why? because I hadn't seen one locally for over 2 years, and I wanted it... $299 for a round receiver Izhevsk is a little high, but if you can't find one, and want one, what is really too high?Longcolt44 wrote:The buyers should yell, "RAPE", when buying from Classic.

Re: They're Back!
You need to expand your buying boundaries. None of those rifles at classic should demand a premium price. I have overspent for something I really wanted but not a regular habit. I will predict the resale on these recent Mosins with the peened sights and billboard Ukranian required writting on them will never be worth what a plain ole' Century referb will be in the future.

Re: They're Back!
The pinned sight leaf and billboard markings suck but at least the rifles shown in the video appear to be in nice condition.
Most of the 91/30's I've seen in gun stores (if you even find them) are pretty beat up, and I don't mean battlefield beat up. I mean bouncing around in the back of bubba's pickup truck and allowed to rust beat up. The price on them is not much less than Classic, so given the choice I think Classic is the better buy...at least for someone in a hurry. I think there are still good deals out there on nice refurbs but they take some time and effort to find. Some people don't want to spend the time and effort. For them, Classic may be a good option.

Re: They're Back!
People sell their crap first, that's why you are seeing rifles like that in the gun shops and such. Lots of people bought the $65 91/30's years back, they are starting to sell them off now at $250-$350, but the more beat up looking examples are being brought out first.

Classic caters to the uneducated and the lazy. There are deals out there if you look. It takes persistence. Otherwise you are at the mercy of classic and others.

Re: They're Back!
First post NOOB here. I drank the Classic Koolaid and am now cleaning up a 1940 Tula round receiver model. The barrel while having well defined lands and grooves was/is very rough. Pitted inside and out with many spots having what looks like black paint over the pitting. Bought as an Arsenal refurb, it has a stock front end repair that is typical of what I've seen from other makers. I sweated some of the grease out so it isn't staining me every time I handle it. The pin ends of both milled band springs were rusted away so I ordered a stamped pair off eBay so I can get the rifle back together while looking for springs like those it came with. I don't know how important it might be to do that so please let me know. Stock is in as good shape as the drill 1903's I have and I want to keep it that way, again please tell me what if anything I might do to that end. Tell me if polishing the sear, trigger and cocking piece is allowed as I would like to shoot this as long as it is safe to do so.
Re: They're Back!
We don't recommend polishing the sear and trigger and such. These rifles aren't meant to have target triggers, and any work on those parts can affect safety. If it passes headspace it should be safe to fire.

Drinking the Kool-Aid, I wonder how many people using that turn of phrase know were it comes from. Somebody used it around me the other day talking politics and I asked if they knew, they had no idea. Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple, 918 corpses rotting in the tropical sunshine of Jonestown 1978. Best not to drink that Kool-Aid, funny part is wasn't even Kool-Aid, it was cheap generic powder drink mix. That was some shockingly nasty shit.

My 15yo was using that phrase a few months ago. So I explained it just as you did and she was appalled. Doomed to repeat itself since its not taught.

Who is Ben? The last Ben I remember was the bear on Grizzly Adams. I miss that show. Nobody picked on Ben the bear because that would be....well...suicide.

Re: They're Back!
I shoot all my Milsurps in Vintage rifle class of our High Power matches. If it can't hit 6" @ 100 yds it's gone. A trigger something less than 10.5 lbs is a little better bet for this task. I do enjoy working up to it though and this Mosin is the farthest from my pond I've gone so far. It will be fun to see what I can get out of it. For those of you that shoot your Mosins, what is "allowed" recommended?
