Beat Up Mosin's Now Going For $469.95 !!

Post by billt460 »

Never thought I'd live to see the day. And they're round receiver Ishevsk's. I paid $69.95 For Hex Receiver Tula's with all the accessories just a few years ago.

I did the math, my coffee table containing 20 Mosins, the least of them is a hex receiver ex dragoon ( there is a real dragoon in there) is currently worth around 14 grand. Finns, SCW, dragoons, refurbs, special markings rifles.

My first Mosin-Nagant was a $69.00 hex from J&G. I actually bought two, one for me and one for my son for Christmas.

It will really be interesting to see if they sell at the current prices. If they do, I might start cashing out some duplicates.

I was thinking more vintage Power Wagon than Ferrari, I can fit in a Power Wagon, thinking 77-78 with the 440- 4 speed package.

The trick is to stock up on the ammo when it was cheap as well.

Easily $100+ higher than anything I've seen on GunBroker. Maybe $150-$200... I can't see anyone in their right minds paying $400 for a war years Mosin... Appear to be non refurbs but matching? Romanian hoard? Uggg, that would make the pricing even worse... Glad I'm not just getting into this right now... Imagine paying $400+ for a Milsurp sight unseen?

They may be re-arsenals, but they don't look beat up at all to me. You should see what the local cabelas has for sale in their rack- All the rusty ones are $279, the less rusty ones are $299, the hex receivers were $349-399, and the one finnish model ( i think it was finn...) they had was like $579.

Even in my area though, these prices would be considered high- those would fetch $249 maybe in the shop that I know buys them in crates still on occasion... He charges that because he dis-assembles and 80% cleans the cosmoline off them before selling them
1935r Izhevsk hex receiver 91/30, serial number 407, laminated stock
1942r Izhevsk round receiver 91/30 re-arsenal "parts built" gun
1944r Izhevsk round receiver M44 very smooth action

Do you guys ever listen when I tell you there is no shortage of refurbs in this country just a planned shortage on the market!

The money hungry distributers of them stashed cases of them in leaky containers and being the last group in got very little of that pesky grease you all complain about they rusted. I have even seen some with water marks in the shellac where their buttstocks set in standing water. The only people buying the super high ridiculous prices are uneducated fools who want to get into the Mosin collecting without spending time learning or looking. The ones at live auctions have advanced in price to around %260 or so but it takes effort to get you fat butts out of the chair away from the computer and your dream world to face reality.

If you think I am wrong try and liquidate your collection for those prices or get them in a face to face sale. People at shows are looking at the prices dealers have and are buying things like Sporterized Carcano's for $225 and such. Most of them think that the old prices of $59 a piece will come back but they are not going down that much. Living in a dream world is never gonna help you deal with reality. This cycling of shortages has been going on for years in the Milsurp field. One that I have enjoyed watching for well over 50 years and it just got more expensive of late, so with money tight, more are noticing it these days.

Two areas to watch now are ammo and surplus accessories. Ammo is obvious to most but things in the accessory line I paid 2 or 3 bucks for a couple of years ago are now up in the teens when you can find them. Swiss, Swedish, and Japanese rifles are going sky high and German, US, and British rifles are following right along even higher. If and when the party not in power gets in you can bet they will move toward taxation of our guns and we will be dead in the water then. You know sometimes I am awful glad I am now 74 and may not see a lot of this stuff. Good Luck all you well meaning young'uns! Bill

Where in Glendale do you live I am sure the ATF or some other Federal agency would love to visit and make sure you have that much ammo stored right for public safety. Course if you don't they will have to seize it! :o Bill

I personally think we are experiencing a milsurp bubble. No I am not saying the days of $79 Mosins are returning but I do think that if you pay $350 for a round receiver you will never get your money back. Heck, I just paid $410 for a very nice, low production year M27. I agree with the new collectors over spending that are getting bad advice fueled by the internet. There are a lot of Mosins in basements across this country that will be popping out as collectors see the current prices as well.

They would be far better served confiscating every one gallon lawn mower gas can, that's in most every garage in America. They present a far greater fire danger to the public than ammunition. Any fireman will tell you the exact same thing.

Fuck 'em all Bill, money hungry dealers, shitbag politicians, whatever, I got mine, I am keeping what I feel like keeping and will eventualy sell the surplus if I feel like it. I could care less what they are selling for now, I am not buying any, and I would appreciate maximum profits should I sell anything. Some dealers have stockpiled Mosins, problem is their bills don't go away while they sit on the rifles, and like what happened with SOG all dealers of milsurp items are finding it hard to resupply with anything. The bills keep comming and now they have to sell the crap they sat on. Once it's exhausted, and I think that will be soon, then the real price spike will begin. Back ten years lots of dealers held back stuff in hopes of increasing profits, but at the same time they were getting in new surplus items to sell. Not the case now. If things between Uncle Sam and the Soviets suddenly turn all rosy with huggs and kisses again and the floodgates open on Soviet surplus inside the USSR, and the government in charge aren't anti gun shitbags ( who are we kidding, they are all shitbags one way or another) then we will see the $59 91/30 return. I have a better chance of hitting the next billion dollar lotto than that set of circumstances ever happening.

They are but very very slowly. Aim put up that lot of M91/30s on about Sept 28th and the Tula, Hexes and Tula Hexes sold out fast for like $329. There wasn't many of those though. They also listed round receiver M91/30s for $299 and had somewhere around 300 of them. They still have 61. People in forums aren't buying them because they think they're junk rifles because they were so cheap before or because people talk crap about them. I even saw one guy say he was going to wait until the price comes back down, lol. I doubt seriously that's going to happen. They think because millions of them were made there has to still be a bunch more of them over there. They're forgetting, we weren't the only country buying these for decades.
