Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Andy here, just purchased my first Mosin Nagant at a local show. It caught my interest mostly because of the specific information the seller offered. It is supposedly a Remington contract rifle that was subsequently armory refurbished in the USSR. Obtained by a WWII soldier and brought home, stored for 60 years or so. One thing is clear. The seller was honest about the presence of old cosmoline. He cleaned it up for sale but didn't go nuts. There was still chips of cosmoline in the action and in the barrel.
I did a bit of browsing and searching various web sites in hopes of pinning down the veracity of the story. Comparing numbers, proof marks and such against the many images on the web.
I'm encountering some challenges in tracing the history because the bolt serial actually matches the barrel serial. Problem is that the barrel says 1936 with Izhevsk markings but the bolt is a Remington. With a perfectly matching number, right down to the font and the slight vertical misalignment of the 1st and last digit.
Before I go crazy with details please let me know where in the forums I should post my request and perhaps what other info the experts will be seeking. I have not yet torn the rifle down beyond removing the bolt for disassembly and cleaning. Are there other signs I should be looking for once the furniture is removed?

Post your story with pictures in the main Mosin Nagant forum. Me thinks the gun show seller told you a gun show seller fable. We can figure it out though.

New guy here
Hello fellow members of The forum. I'm new here, just bought my second mosin (a 91/30 Izhevsk round receiver arsenal refurb imported from Ukraine) from classic firearms and am excited to get it. I will post pics when I receive the rifle. My first Mosin was an M44 carbine and was actually the very first rifle I ever bought when I turned 18. Unfortunately I sold it

Hi everyone. I'm Todd from northeast Ohio and I've been collecting milsurp rifles and accessories for 12 years, focusing mainly on Mosins (especially Finn, Finn captured, Finn owned, Finn borrowed...) and also Swiss rifles. Occasionally a Russian example will sneak in, the latest being an original matching 1897 Izhevsk M91.
So long time lurker, first time poster...just wanted to get my introduction out of the way (finally)

Hello; bought my first 91/30 Izhevsk 1942r. Learning more and more about the rifle.... have yet to shoot it
The previous owner had started to refinish the stock, but stopped half way through. Still has many stamps on the stock, so thats good; they weren't sanded off. The rifling is perfect as far I can tell and dropping a bullet into the crown and it only dropped past the Spitzer tip.

Was given this site to search for a M91 upper handguard. Looking forward to seeing some awesome rifles in here.

Good Morning All,
I'm Phil (aka CZechList) and swapped for a 91/30 earlier this week. It was described as a DDR Mosin, and I'm looking for ways to verify that. Got my C&R about 3 years ago, and in the process of renewing for the first time. Here to learn all that I can about what I have, and what else might be desirable to get hold of. I think that it's pretty cool to own a piece of history like the various Mosins I've read about so far..

Hi I'm Phil from Atlantic Canada. I've been meaning to get into firearms collecting and shooting for several years, just was always too busy. Finally made the plunge picking up a 1950 SKS and a 1917 Remington M91. I look forward to researching more about these fine firearms and shooting them of course!!!
Definitely loving the amount of information on this site!

Hello, I recently bought a 1942r 90/31 mosin nagant “Izhevsk”. It is a bent bolt so I believe it to be a sniper. I have read all over google and YouTube and can’t seem to find any consistent answers. I have attached pictures of the markings and gun itself. It does have the refurbishment square with a line through it on the stock but Also there at a few upper case R on the wood as well as an uppercase E. Also looks like a bunch of half stamp circles by the Izhevsk triangle. There are some more markings here and there on the wood. I am just trying to get some history and information on the different markings. All the serial numbers seem to match all over the gun. Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

Hi all, my name is James. I started buying firearms a couple years ago, and always liked the Mosin Nagant, so I think my 3rd or 4th gun was a re-arsenal 91/30 from 1945
Not a true matching numbers gun, and has a re-arsenal stock on it, but it’s a nice shooter. Izhevsk
A year or so later, I found an M44 that was owned by a state police officer, well kept, matching numbers gun, and I bought that too. I have to look but I think it’s a Tula round receiver.
Today I just picked up another 91/30 Izhevsk hex receiver, with a low serial number (407) and a laminated stock and I don’t think it was issued or fired. It’s a 1935 manufacture date, has some pitting on buttplate and bolt handle, but bore is perfect
I’m here to learn and admire

Seeking info
I believe this to be a Russian M38, based on the research I have conducted.
I was hoping to see if anyone here could provide any clearer info. I think it is the hammer & sickle in the leaves, but it is not clear.
I don't know anything of the history or anything like that.

Hello everyone!
I'm Thierry from France, although I live in Russia right now. I used to have a Mosin (a basic '43 Izhevsk round receiver model), which I liked a lot, and a Yugoslav M48 Mauser which I liked as well but not as much as my Mosin (it was an objectively better rifle, but using the Mosin was fun while the Mauser felt more "professionnal") until I moved abroad in 2015.
Now that I know I'll be moving back home soon, I've decided to find a place to discuss my favorite rifle as well as other bolt action rifles later on. Right now, I think I'll settle for either a pre war hex receiver Tula model, or for a carbine version, I'm still to come back to France and have to get a new shooter's license as well.
So, right now I don't have any pictures to post, but I'll make sure to post some as soon as I come back!

Hello folks. I noticed some of you are interested in the Suomi SMG and TNW semi. That’s my main area of interest right now. I hope that is ok. Thanks!
