Swedish FM23-36 "trial" Mauser rifle.

Post by CalFed »

Last week I noticed this at an auction. I thought it might be some kind of sporterized hack job, but found that it is actually a rare FM 23-36 Swedish

After I won it at the auction, I checked around and found my new rifle over on GunBoard. Someone had noticed it for sale on Gun Broker back in 2016 and preserved the GB pictures.

That thing is badass.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

A tough find for sure. The pinnacle of any Swede collectors firearms.
Real gun control is the ability to hit the target.

Thanks, guys!

My FM23-36 trials rifle arrived a few days ago at the FFL to begin the 10 day "cooling off" period.

Stock is in great shape, as is the bluing. bore looks great and all numbers seem to match. I grabbed a few pictures before it went into my FFL's safe

I finally got a chance to compare the FM23-36 to my CG63 Swedish target rifle

Image

It is clear that the barrel profile on the FM23 is significantly heavier than the CG63. I tried to take a few pictures to demonstrate that...

Still have to get these rifles out to the range for a shoot off.
