New old knife

Post by SA1911a1 »

My son went flea baying yesterday and called to see if I was home so he could drop off something. A nice USN WWII Mk 2 deck knife. Interesting, the sheath, which has had some ersatz repairs, is matching to the knife. I haven't seen any that were "serialized", but I am new to this and there is more that I don't know than do know. It is a nice addition to the military fixed blades I have been gathering in. It is nice to have an eagle-eyed son who is looking out for you. :)

He lucked out too. There was a new 1930s Ka-Bar pocket knife laying on my desk when he came in. He really liked it, so it left with him.

Everybody wins!

Nice find, I hope that's all locked up. Knew a guy got stabbed to death by a burglar in his own home with a bayonet the burglar took off the wall. In my home the burglar would be bringing a knife to a shotgun fight, but then he would have to bring his own blade.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I leave blades and clubs by all three doors. I like to have a good excuse.

That's :cool2: Steve, I've just got lots of old pocket knives, and a Columbia river hunting knife that would cut off a moose's head on the run. I do have seven .38 specials however laying all over the house, the shop, and in my truck.

I just found an old ratty pocket knife hidden inside an antique phonograph. Somebody had to unscrew six screws and pull the motorboard to put it in there. 80 year old murder weapon?

Hidden knife. It was pinned in place under the bottom of the motor when the motorboard was on so it couldn't rattle around.

You know some poor kid got his ass beat and blamed for losing daddy's knife, when all along daddy just left it in there when doing some repairs!

I have the same knife Steve. It was my Dad's and he always used it hunting.

I always remember it being around in the garage all my life.

People pay huge prices, now days, for the latest and greatest hunting knife, but the old carbon steel knives can't be beat.

Nope, I own a real top of the line NY made Ka-Bar because I got it for $15 brand new in the box at a flea market. Vintage is what I prefer, my Swiss army knife is at least 40 years old, most of my other blades are older than that.

I've got a Victronox that's 45 yrs that gets sharp enough to do surgery. A must have when camping or riding horses in the mountains.

I have at least ten Swiss Army Knives, all Victornox. I am constantly misplacing them, so I solved the problem by putting one in each tool kit, one in my winter coat, another in the car, another in the junk drawer, yet another on my workbench and a couple for pocket use. Never buy a Swiss army knife made anyplace other than Switzerland.
