the Black Death

If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

the Black Death

Post by steelbuttplate »

I got tired of carrying my first Kentucky rifle that was the weight of a piece of drill steel, so in '92 I think I gave $90 for this little feller. He's been a real killer , two kill shots over 100 yd but most 20-50 yd. I keep the back sight black and the front filed silvery. 90 gr. Pyrodex and a .325 gr. buffalo bullet .

Nice but it looks like you ran out of paint when you got to the buttstock. Do you use a buffalo bullet when rabbit hunting?

Cool, I still have my 70's era CVA Kentucky .45, plus a few I have picked up since then.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Probably the same barrel/trigger. With the load I mentioned, I hold full bead out to 50 yd, half the front sight extra full for 75, and the whole blade extra full for 100 +. "Hillbilly ranging". The last one I shot with it was the Muy Grande of Glade Valley, he survived with front leg damage. :music2.gif:

I've only shot the Bobcat at 50, same hold as you. I took a doe at 125 with my Traditions Hawken. I held the sight regular, just put it on her shoulder, missed the aorta (always my target on a deer) by 1/2" high, put the 385 gr Buffalo Bullets HBHP through both lungs, she went over the top of the hill, laid down about 50 yards over the hill. I Reloaded the 1100 (my backup gun-shotgun/muzzelloader/pistol area at the time) that I missed the other four deer that were on that hill with (she was the closest) , waited about 10 more minutes, topped the hill, she stuck her neck up to look, I broke it with a Brenneke Black Magnum.

You shoot a squirrel with this, nothing left but hide & hair. .36 cal round ball was the squirrel rifle in the Blue ridge.
