Quite the M1 Carbine Deal.

Post by sgtheindl »

Hi I'm back again. I know I come and go for long periods of time but I still like to pop in every now and again and share some purchases with you fine people. For those who don't know, I've worked at Cabelas for the past 4 years now. Recently the Gun Library manager (who I'm great friends with) got a call about an estate sale. Well to shorten the story he came back with 52 guns for a crazy low price. I had the privilege of getting to clear/check in all of these firearms which means getting to cherry pick something haha. He ended up handing me a box that said US Cal .30 Carbine on it. My eyes lit up like I had found early Christmas presents. Found inside is what proceeds in the pictures below. I instantly claimed the gun using 4 sticky notes with my name on it. (wasn't taking any chances) I didn't enough a price yet but knowing they had the collection for cheap I knew it would be in my favor. Again to shorter this dragging story I received a text a few days later telling me the rifle at my price was...$286. $286. We get used firearms for cost + 30% in case you were wondering. Honestly I have no idea how to price M1 carbines or kept up with them but I knew it was a steal and today I made her officially mine! 1943 Quality Hardware with a 8-43 Underwood barrel

Arlington Ord, wow, that brings back memorys, they had a chunk of the Korean M1 and M1 carbine returns back in the early 90's. Real M1 carbines like this are what these days? $700, or have they cracked a grand yet? Nice haul. :)

Yep, old Arlington Ordnance Korean import. You did very well. I'd agree with JYD's value at $700.00. If it weren't import marked I'd say it would push 900 bucks.

Most M1 carbines are going for $800.00+. Authentic Inland M1 Paratrooper models begin at $3000.00. I recently did a survey for the shop as we just got in 5 Carbines and one paratrooper model. These are selling prices not asking prices.

Well, at our Cabella's that rifle would be priced out at arount $1,200 or maybe higher. I've never seen anything there that would tickle my interest. But, I guess they are in the business and need to get what they can. I quess some will pay it too. That's OK, I just don't have that kind of cash to burn. You know what I mean?

Proud? I don't know about that. Enjoying one of the only perks of the job? Absolutely. This is a rare oddity for us so its not like were putting back guns daily, weekly, or even monthly.

If I was in that job I would be putting back guns every fifteen minutes or less and fuck the public. Let them get a job at Cabelas if they want the " special" deals. With collecting anything goes, I see it first and I want it, then you ain't getting it. If I was the manager you never would have gotten your hands on that carbine, it would be home with me and you would be looking at the pictures  You should be proud of yourself for nailing that for the collection, and at a great price. I would have done all sorts of sneaky shit to acquire it for myself no matter how many customers were drooling over it, make sure that amazingly understanding manager gets a nice box of whatever he likes to smoke or a good bottle of his favorite booze.

Hell yeah! To the victor go the spoils!!! No problem at all with what you've done. I'd be doing exactly what JYD says if I were in your shoes!

I was in your store a while back and noticed all the used rifle section of the store is pretty much history now and gun safes sit in that spot. I'm guessing all rifles purchased now go to the library area and maybe shared for sale at other stores ?
Showed my family a very beautiful older model Winchester Featherweight rifle displayed in the center of the library room telling them how cheap the new ones looked compared to the earlier rifles made. I've wanted one for years and never got around to shelling out the cash they usually ask.
Fast forward a couple months and I get a box for my 20th anniversary, open it and this beautiful rifle is inside..... I had to choke back a few tears not expecting it my wife had made the trip back the next day and purchased the rifle. How much it cost I don't want to ever know... I've topped it with a nice Vortex scope and I'm shooting the hell out of it.
