MIA

Post by Chico1968 »

Hey all, we'll just purchased my second Russian SKS ...we'll guess it's only half a rifle, lots of missing parts !
Just want some input on if it's worth finding the parts,
Paid $50.00 bucks, had the idea of trying to find parts to rebuild. .....and how hard is it going to be to find them.

Here's what's missing :
(1) Stock
(2) Magazine
(3) Bayonet
(4) Cleaning Rod
(5) Dust Cover
(6) Gas Cylinder/Hand Guard

Thanks,

I would sell the parts, and put the profit toward a complete specimen.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

All the missing parts are available but you would have a no value mix master and in it more than a all correct SKS would cost you. I am with millman on this.

You still make a good deal. You should make a nice profit selling the parts. If you are looking for a shooter, build it out, you should be able to have a cheap shooter. If I took the second option I sure wouldn't buy the bayonet or cleaning rod.

Look on Ebay, you should find all the parts on there, it will give you an idea on cost. You might find a store with all the parts in one place and save on shipping. Look on Gruntbroker too, you might find a parts rifle.

I’d save the parts as spares. You can’t have too many spare parts.

Thanks for all the input. ..will check out getting parts but as millman and longcolt44 said probably cost would out way the value compared to just buying a complete one....that being said I kinda have this new fasination for these SKS's and as awalker1829 mentioned keep the parts, you can never have too many.
Now I'm looking for a Mosin Nagant. ...addicting it seems...find myself always checking out the classifieds ads for SKS's ...lol
Again Thanks everyone for the info.

That works...

Or mothball the parts & wait for parts over time.

My thought was one of our regular posters was missing in action and I hadn't noticed. People vanish all the time without me noticing right away.

That's an interesting find. It's an SKS in kit form...but with missing pieces  Look for a piece here and a piece there and rebuild it slowly.

If it was a junker and rusty, pitted and had a sewer bore, I'd be inclined to keep it as a loose parts collection but It looks too mint to ignore.

EDIT: Dadgum zombie threads get me every time. :vsad: ...Image

A few Russian receiver covers are on that famous auction site. $30 and some change isn't a bad price to pay....and you get to pick your year.
