How much do you shoot at one time?

Post by Spermgewehr »

Just curious what your shooting habits are like. Typically I bring 4-5 weapons with me and go through 80-150 rounds of each. Very rare that I put a lot of rounds through any one gun in a single session.

Also, a bit quirky... But I don't like loading mags in advance. Sure, I can come with 5 or 6 fully loaded 30rd mags, but find that I burn through them waaaaay too quick. Instead I just load a box (20 rounds) at a time and shoot that, then 20 more, etc. Saves me money. Guess it's not totally about the shooting so much as the freedom and environment. JUst plinking away in the desert with a buddy or two, wasting the day away.

4 or 5 guns and 80 to 150 rds. each is a lot of rounds a day through each gun. In my AK series, I just use the 5 rd.mags.
I prefer to take more time with each gun and shoot for accuracy. If I only take one or two guns, I shoot much better paying attention to
to them only. FWIW

Depends what I have ammunition for at the time and what I feel like shooting. I stocked up on 8mm Mauser and 7.62X54R some time back so they get a lot of range time. Always the .22's because they are cheap and fun.

I agree with you about loading at the range...it tends to slow me down and forces me to burn up less ammo. When I took my ak to the range to break it in I went through almost 300 rounds in less than an hour. I won't be doing that too much. I only bring one rifle to the range at a time. I like to spend time with only one rifle and work with it for awhile. I also clean the same day that I shoot so bringing multiple rifles means too much to clean when I get back especially if I am shooting corrosive ammo and a thorough cleaning is needed.

I can burn through hundreds of rounds when shooting my .22's, same thing with a handgun, rifles on a day long shoot I might burn 500 rounds. That was before I cut back on centerfire due to the cost.

When I go to the range, it is usually a half-day affair with me, but I really take my time. I usually take one high power rifle, one rimfire rifle and one pistol, rimfire or centerfire. I'll do my rifle stuff first; if it is a milsurp, (Mosin Nagant, Enfield, M1 Garand) I'll shoot 20 to 40 rounds. Then I'll shoot 50 to 100 rimfire in the rifle. If I shoot surplus corrosive, I'll spend 30 minutes cleaning before going over to the pistol range. Depending on what caliber I choose, I may shoot a box of centerfire (50) or 100 rimfire at the 25 yard pistol range.

That is pretty much my routine. Spend time with a couple of rifles and get to know them well.

At the least 200 rounds per gun @ a minimum of 2 guns. Unless I am working on loads or correcting an issue with a gun then I just focus on that.

I usually take one rifle and one pistol to the range, but am always wearing my carry pistol, so that makes three. Pistols I rarely shoot more than 3 boxes, and if I am shooting the MNs, usually around 40 rounds. I don't have to pack in all of my shooting for a monthly trip to the range as my trip to the range is closer than my house than to my rural mailbox.

2 or 3 rifles, and 1 is usually a 22 just for fun and to keep the cost down, and several handguns during the same trip. If rifles only perhaps 4.

I live a bit out in the sticks. It's about a half hour drive to the range, so I plan to spend some time there. I'm pretty serious about staying good with a pistol, so that's my priority. I bring three or four of my pistols, my AK, and a couple of my Mosins. I bring at least a hundred rounds apiece for the pistols and fifty rounds apiece for the rifles. (I reload, so that helps.)

Fifty rounds through a Mosin usually pulverizes my shoulder, so I save it for last.

And then I spend an hour or so scrounging brass.

I live on a farm, I've gotta a 300 yard shooting range 70 yards from the house. :D (I feel sorry for the rest of ya) I'll go through as little as one magazine sometimes, or dozons. It's always fun When I get the sisters or the mom out there with me. :toast:

If I climb the hill I can get 300-350 yards, but I can't see that far anymore, so it's the 100 yard range that I use, that far is also a challenge these days :)

Heh, I suppose it makes you a redneck if you have a crate full of radios, TVs, cans, bottles, jugs, and knick-knaks labeled "TO SHOOT" sitting in your lawn :hunter: , oh well. I think we qualified for redneck statis a while back. probably before we made a portable chicken coop out of a camper, or before we learned to "bump" fire the AK-47, *sigh* good times.

I save all the tin cans from the trash and use them as .22 targets, not the bottles, too much cleanup.
