Well, our local Democrats decided to introduce anti-gun bills in the state legislature. Here’s the information the NRA-ILA sent me:

NRA-ILA: Institute for Legislative Action
Arizona: Political Tactics in Phoenix Threatening Your Rights

Your NRA-ILA has learned that anti-gun legislators may attempt to use political maneuvers in order to push through gun control legislation on Thursday, March 8th. Please contact your state Senator and Representative and urge them to stand strong in support of the Second Amendment and reject any attempts by anti-gun legislators to use political maneuvers to move gun control legislation. Click the “Take Action” button below to contact your state legislators.

Anti-gun legislators may attempt to move the following bills:

House Bill 2023, sponsored by Representative Randall Friese (D-2), would ban trigger modification devices. The broad and overreaching provisions of HB 2023 could criminalize firearm modifications such as competition triggers, muzzle brakes, and ergonomic changes that are commonly done by law-abiding gun owners to make their firearms more suitable for self-defense, competition, hunting, or even overcoming disability.

House Bill 2024, sponsored by Rep. Friese, would establish a private firearm transfer ban by requiring a background check on virtually all firearms being transferred or loaned from one citizen to another. It is already illegal under federal statute to knowingly sell a firearm to an individual who is a prohibited person. Likewise, it a felony for a prohibited person to buy, own or possess a firearm. This legislation seeks to make unnecessary changes to current firearms laws rather than addressing the true problems associated with straw purchases and the lack of enforcement.

Senate Bill 1347, sponsored by Senator Katie Hobbs (D-24), would allow for the issuance of protective orders to infringe on Second Amendment rights based on third party allegations with little, if any, real evidence and limited “due process” for the respondent. The issuance of an order would immediately prohibit the respondent from exercising their Second Amendment rights. Constitutional rights should only be restricted with proper due process of law.

Again, please use the Take Action button above to contact your state Senator and Representative and urge them to oppose any legislation that restricts your Second Amendment rights! Please stay tuned to your email inbox and http://www.nraila.org for further updates throughout the session.

Friese is a surgeon and a Yellow Dog Democrat. No surprise he drafted the first two bills. Of course, I have already contacted my state legislators to register my opposition to these bad bills.

That ain’t worth two squirts of tomcat’s piss. The US is the most dominate nation on the planet because of things like the 2A that were factored in by the founding fathers.

No way in hell could they enforce a no private sales ban unless registration of all privately owned firearms in also put into law.

When the big turn em' all in is coming, and it is eventually, I wonder who will volunteer to be the first person to knock on the door? Probably not going to have much of a future.

Friese represents a minority-Tucson. Southern Arizona is an outlier, extremely liberal. All the idiotic anti-gun ideas originate from Tucson and get shot down at the state level. None of those measures stand a chance at passing and the Democrats know it. Phoenix is pretty equally split theee ways between Republicans, Democrats and independents. However, most independents in this state tend to lean conservative, so that doesn’t help the Democrats as we are a predominantly rural state.

It seems while watching the news that strict gun control is a value shared by basically all millennials, but not as many millennials support it as you might think. I'd say close to half of millennials (as an age group born 1985-2005) are not supporters of strict gun control, only the youngest millennials are. I am a millennial, born in 1995, and graduated high school in 2013. I never had fears of school shootings while I was in school. We never had active shooter drills. My high school had one armed police officer, but I always assumed it was for his personal safety in dealing with fights or gang activity, which were the main fear we students had day to day. In my whole K-12 education, I only witnessed one lockdown and it was for a parent pulling a knife on another parent in the parking lot. Most of my fellow students either liked guns or had no opinion on them.

This gun control push seems to be from the youngest millennials born after the year 2000 who are currently in high school. Perhaps they grew up with more fear of school shootings than millennials a few years older like myself did. More school shootings have certainly happened in recent years so that likely impacted them more than it did me.

Millenials are not united on gun control, but they are united on other things. Millenials are downright PISSED at a government and economy that they feel is screwing them over in favor of the old, rich, white people who run the government. Millenials are financially f*^ked over backwards and sideways and they know it. They're sick of being the highest educated yet lowest paid generation ever. They are sick of a system rigged for those at the top. They are sick and tired of schemes to circumvent democracy like political interest groups. The NRA buying politicians directly violates the millenial idea of democracy where every person's vote counts the same. Money buying elections pisses off millenals. Above all, they are sick and tired of being called whiny little snowflakes who are good for nothing. They are sick of being insulted. Insulting them only radicalizes them and convinces them to show their power by protesting and registering to vote to prove their insulters wrong. They will turn their rage against their insulters: that means you. Gun control happens to be the current outlet for their pent-up rage about many topics.

Millenials are a united generation. The millennials who do not want gun control will still show up and march with millennials they disagree with just to show their support for the other side speaking their mind against a common enemy: the people in power currently. That is the great power of the millennial generation. They can come together and say, "We don't agree on this one topic, but we agree on a whole lot of other topics and the older generations think we're powerless idiots, so we will join hands together and show support for each other because we must unite against our common enemy."
I'm just here for the free coffee mug and tee shirt. :vcool:

California also used to require defendants named in restraining orders to turn their firearms over to law enforcement. Someone with money stood up to the State and that got changed by the California Department of Justice.

Basically the issue was the 4th Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures of personal property. By taking the property to ensure protection of another person, it was argued that the property was being taken for a public purpose. That would require the state to pay fair market value for the property taken or to provide a bond or other surety guarantees.

That being the issue, the state has changed what the judges can order regarding disposition of firearms. They now instruct defendants that they must surrender them to law enforcement OR transfer them to a FFL dealer. The FFL may sell the firearms on behalf of the defendant OR store them on behalf of the defendant while the restraining order is in effect. The defendant may transfer stored firearms to the FFL while the restraining order is in effect if they change their mind and decide to sell their firearms instead of storing them.

Please stop believing that "it can't happen here"......it can and it WILL if you don't start fighting it. We've already lost in NY, Dolk too, in CA. Then there is MA, MD, CT, IL, etc. FL is getting their taste now. The virus is spreading.

Folks are gearing up to fight the red flag law in its current form. It won’t survive the first review by an appellate court in its current form.

Man, I hope you're right. I lost all faith when the 2nd Circuit upheld the NY SAFE Act, Judge Skretny quoting an opinion piece from Mother Jones in support of his ruling.

The Arizona Court of Appeals and the Arizona Supreme Court are both VERY conservative. Historically, both Courts have been unfriendly to gun control measures.

Just ran the bill on the Arizona State Legislature website:

Bill passed the Senate but not without major changes: all of the Red Flag Law provisions were removed, no universal background checks for private sales and the bill has no chance of passing the House of Representatives. After the Senate passed the watered down bill, the House held it and no further action has been taken. Bottom line is the bill is dead. We’ll make certain it stays that way.

As far as the Senate was concerned, the majority opinion was that if a person genuinely believes that someone has a mental health issue that makes them a threat to themselves or others, they should call the police and let law enforcement start the court process to get the person adjudicated. The police here are quite prompt in responding to those types of incidents.

Have read your own sig line? We are slowly being taken down internally. Read Noam Chomsky and George Orwell's 1984. Some of the 'progressives' have, and instead of taking 1984 as a warning, they took it as an instruction manual. It can still be reversed, but it won't be easy.

You guy still have it easy. For California, if Gavin Newsom wins as Governor and with the Dem holding a super majority, we will start loosing big time now. Only chance after that is the courts.

We are. Now the Democrats in Arizona are demanding that the Governor call a special session of the legislature so that they can get a second chance to pass anti gun legislation. Basically they are wanting to take political advantage of the tragedy in Texas. I’ve written the Governor, respectfully requesting that no special session be called. Governor Ducey proposed a reasonable plan that respected the rights of law abiding gun owners and introduced reasonable improvements to school safety.

Basically, the Democrats had an opportunity to act to improve school safety and they did nothing. All they want is to ban guns-something that any realistic candidate knows is a third rail of politics in our state. They need to feel the political heat from their constituents and I think they will. Randall Friese (D) Tucson is in a three way primary and I hope he gets beat. All he’s been is a mouthpiece for the gun control crowd-he hasn’t actually accomplished anything during his time in the Legislature. None of the bills that he has introduced have been passed-not surprising since all he does is draft anti gun legislation.

IMO, there are ways to reduce/eliminate the shootings. To me, it seems that good solutions aren't looked into because the shootings are always politicized. My biggest gripe is the shooter's name and face is plastered on the media for weeks/months/years which gives them instant fame--in other words, they are immediately rewarded for killing people. Also, each shooting receives media coverage for weeks/months. This provides two problems that I can think of. One, it makes the shootings seem more frequent that what they are. Two, the next shooter feels confident that he will be a successful mass shooter due to the constant media coverage of successful shootings. Unsuccessful shootings rarely receive coverage. I believe if we did not make these people famous, and if we provided more attention to unsuccessful shootings, we would see a decline in shootings. School security really needs to be addressed as well in order to thwart these shootings. I don't know if we could/should look to move police stations next door to schools when possible. Make schools have only one entrance with metal detectors and armed security? Obviously, they'd need to have fire exits. There needs to be some type of security designs in the schools that would keep shooters out, and that would isolate and/or confuse any shooters who made it past armed security. Unfortunately, there isn't much honesty regarding these shootings due to political agendas which take over after each shooting.

Meanwhile in Ohio, HB 228 went to the floor for a final vote today. HB 228 would place the burden of disproving a self-defense claim onto the prosecution, similar to how it is in almost every other state. Further, House Bill 228 would expand the locations that a person has no duty to retreat from before using force to defend themselves under both civil and criminal law. It is expected to pass and Kasich will sign it as he still has visions of being president and does not want to ruffle any feathers.
