NEW Mosin value check.

Post by jaytex1969 »

Good afternoon.

I've found a local posting of a fellow with a NEW Mosin for sale.

It's in a later stock. He removed the original for a "project" BUT he NEVER ALTERED the original stock after all.

Includes a bayonet and some loading dies. Asking $550.

What's a fair price on a NEW Mosin and what should I look out for?

Thanks.

Comes with the original stock ? Is the later stock black plastic?

The stock on it currently looks like a standard Russian shellacked refurb stock. The original stock looks to have the handguard and bands lying there also. I'm rather ignorant on early M91 stuff and American in general, but my first impression is that it is correct and unmolested. I shot a $480 offer and have not yet heard back.

Way over priced. If it was in the original stock maybe. M91 stocks, handguard and cleaning rods are expensive and sparse. Do not buy this one if it doesn't come with the correct stock.

Homer, the original stock is included. Why it's not installed, I don't know. At this point, I'd rather have the current owner handle it as little as possible.

Here's the pic:

It's hard to tell, but I think I see a pretty bad crack in the brown stock, wrist area, that might be why it's wearing a 91/30.

Sorry, wasn't too clear. Still with the condition I'd say 350. Stock looks rather battered and you can find a better condition rifle for the price.

Agree with Homer, way over priced for a M91 thats not even in its original stock..You CAN find a better condition rifle for less money..Be patient and keep looking.

I have a M28 for sale in the marketplace for 525.00 shipped. That is about 475.00 Plus shipping roughly.

Or I could spend that $50 shipping on gas for a road trip from Austin for a FTF... :P

Evil temptations. Thanks all, for the advice. I have passed on the fine local offering.

Local gun deals. LOL......I've driven over 300 miles (one way) for a deal. Truthfully though....it was more about the road trip with my son vs the gun deal.

I hear ya. Here, I will go pretty much anywhere if the price is right-Arizona has plenty of good secondary sources for antique or surplus guns. That and as long as I maintain my CCW permit, no NICS check either at dealers.

I also like long drives-wouldn’t think twice about going up as far as Prescott or Flagstaff. 500 plus miles in a day is a piece of cake for me.
