Re: Buggies
The Spider engine? No, I have only two carburetor setups, but I know someone I can ask.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Buggies
No, the Spider (Turbo) had one carb. I have that engine in my sandrail. The Corsa had 4 carbs (140hp). It was part of the "faster" Corvair engines.Junk Yard Dog wrote:The Spider engine? No, I have only two carburetor setups, but I know someone I can ask.
************************************************
Standard Corvair engine 85 hp (Note: two carbs sitting down on the heads)

************************************************
Spyder = 150hp 1962 to 1963 (one carb up by the turbo but haas two ports on the heads connected together by a tube manifold), looks like a standard engine if the turbo unit is removed)

************************************************
Corsa Spiner = 180 hp 1964 to 1969 Same as the Spyder except larger pistons.
************************************************
This is what I am after!!!!!!
Corsa = 140 hp 1964 to 1969 (4 carbs) (no turbo unit) You can spot them easy because they have 4 intake ports right on the head where the carbs set. Note: not turbo, but 4 carbs, larger pistons and bigger valves.
The advantage to the 140hp Corsa over the 180 hp is, no turbo. It's HP kicks in early in the RPM range. The 180 and 150 turbo's you had to get the "boost" going before the HP kicked in.
So, the 140 HP are much quicker off the line then the Turbos are. My buggy max's out about 75 mph (it starts to lift up!), so the Turbo's are not as good unless you can "load" the turbo's early or change the carbs and take a chance of blowing them up. On my sandrail, I have those huge paddle tires on the back end and I can load that turbo up and it boosts much earlier. So it works. But the buggy don't stand a chance.
So, 4 carb 140 hp is what I'm looking for. But I probably can find one around here cheaper because there would be no shipping. Shipping takes it too high.

Yea, it might be a problem getting that engine into one of the USPS flat rate shipping box's. I have sent much larger and heavier engines to South America. UPS shipped the last one, cost around $1400 . 1941 Lincoln V12 engine . The four carbs would fit in two flat rate $13.80 medium box's and ship for that price to all 50 states and PR, the intake would not be that expensive to ship by itself. I sent a Judson supercharger out your way last year for around $60 plus another $20 or so after I insured the shit out of it.

If you ever find another one of those, grab on to it. I'll buy it!!!Junk Yard Dog wrote:I sent a Judson supercharger out your way last year for around $60 plus another $20 or so after I insured the shit out of it.
Turns out mine is a 95hp.
Then there is
85 hp (two carb)
110 hp (two carbs)
140 hp (4 carbs)
150 hp (turbo)
180 hp (turbo)
The Judson was a "add on". I'd love to find one of those. On a 95hp, it would be around 30HP bolt on power.
I'm working on the shifter. Complete rebuild so it works right.
This is a storage place for my photos. I'll organize them later.
Here is my problem. The shifter is too high in the buggy and not level like the Corvair has to be. I knock it out when I shift to 1st or 3rd (sometimes). When I do, I have to stop and get out and crawl under and set it back up.
The shifter is a "ball in a cup" type. Typical for trans-axles.

This is the Jamar shifter I got. It is getting modified (cut down) to fit under a adapter plate I'm making right now. The Jamar sits lower and also runs flat. You then use universal to connect up to trans.

After the shifter, I have new seats. My 65 year old ass doesn't fit in the seats like my 16 year ass did! They are a little wider!!!

Re: Buggies
Diet time is it? The Judson was actually $600, not $60, closer to $700 I think, and that was for a stuck tight rusty relic. The customer knew it's condition before hand. Very rare unit today for anything.
