1944 M44 with odd cut out for bayonet

Post by olearyjms2 »

Hi there. I am the proud owner of an 1944 ishvesk M44. I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on this.... the stock seems perposly cut out to fit the folding bayonet. Maybe it's a cut down or adapted m38 stock? Has anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance. James

M44 stocks have a groove in the side where the bayonet lays.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Downsize the picture to at least 640x480 before trying to load it to the board.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

All M-44 have a cutout place for the bayonet to fold into.

You are correct, in the sense that when the M44 was adopted, they just added the cut-out for the bayonet to the M38 stock.
