I figured there was nothing else there that would be a bargain with everything included. Most of the dealers were from around the Pittsburgh are and they brought their prices with them. Saw some of my old pals from when I did Civil War reenactment many years ago and it was fun catching up with them. They are retired and were busy selling off Civil War stuff they no longer care for or collect. Life goes on as they say! If you are not willing to make the effort to travel and take the time to look at out of the way shows and other activities then you will reap the equivalent to the effort you put out. Nothing comes easy in life so go figure what you are gonna get as a result of what you do to get it. I have many times taken trips longer and harder for nothing but that is the way it goes sometimes. Next time you begin to complain I never see anything think about what others do to occasionally find bits and pieces. I spent sometime and money but I am satisfied and that is what counts! Bill

That is the cost of Finn collecting these days with just about everything figured in. Travelled from 6 AM in the morning till when I got home at 4 PM in the afternoon. Went to little 1 day show in northern Pennsylvania and spent about 3 hours looking, visiting, eating, and buying a nice Hackman Finn bayonet and scabbard. There was a 1938 Finnish M27 there for $650 which was a duplicate and was way over priced to me and also a Finnish M91 for $450 which was also a duplicate for me. Saw a few other Milsurps which were all over priced to my thinking too. This figures my gas and food into the price and Thank God for my gas efficient little Subaru. Gas in PA is going around $2.89 so I only bought what would get me back to WV for cheaper gas prices. $2.39 a gallon is much easier to take for me.

I haven't been to a show in many years and I sure never traveled 455 miles to look at one and yet I still have a mountain of crap that should it topple over I will be buried under it. My strategy is wait until it comes to me or I stumble over it, and that has worked well. Things walk in the door without my even advertising for them. Someone tried to sell me a LeMat yesterday, replica of course, and was very disappointed to find I own one already, the exact model, and with the box, and no, I wasn't going to pay him $700 for it. One is enough of a handful. At least you came away from it with a bayonet, remember to watch that Subaru for head gasket leaks, every damn one of them blows sooner or later, I should know as I have had six of them. They all blew the gaskets, but very handy to have on mornings like this one when the snow is coming down hard and fast.
I hope you didn't bring back the flu this time, have you gotten over the last round fully yet? $2.39 a gallon, I am paying near $3.00, might be over that with so many people still out of power and running gas genny's causing stations to order emergency unscheduled delivery's. I imagine there will be more folks without power before this day is done, the snow is wet and heavy, lines, and trees are sagging, this morning I will be servicing the big genny, and probably using it before long.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

None of us want's a stroke Bill, better a cardiac that takes you quick. Stroke can leave you bedridden and drooling on yourself for years while you watch helpless as everyone comes and takes all your gear. You know how the guys are around here, the moment they hear about it they will be making road trips , grabbing all your Finn's and you will be lucky they don't grab the TV on the way out, all in the name of safeguarding them of course. Wouldn't want you hurting yourself with them if you are brain incapacitated.

After reading that groom description Jim, I decided to pass ion donuts this morning and I think I'll make some steel cut oats. :p
Anywho, the older I get the more I like the sound of a good road trip to check a few shows. I want to make the trek north to Tulsa to the huge Wannemacher Show but I have to have some cash handy because I am not going up there only to find the deal of a lifetime and not be able to grab it. About 260 miles each way. There should be a good BBQ place in there someplace. And lots of coffee.

X2 on the Su-bar-poo head gaskets. I am too old and fat to sit in the engine compartment and do that job any longer. Pull the engine and do it on the bench, Subaru engines are almost as light as the old VW bug motors were. It's just too tight to screw around with it in the car, and you can do all the leaky seals while it's out.
