stock recoil bolt nut
stock recoil bolt nut
How does stock recoil bolt nut affect or reduce recoil on mosin I no my guns and this just makes no sense to me .
Re: stock recoil bolt nut
It doesn't affect the recoil, but is a by-product of recoil. They are installed to keep the stock from splitting due to the heavy recoil. Most laminate stocks actually have two bolts
Cocked, locked and ready to rock...
Re: stock recoil bolt nut
i saw one in a pawn shop that had 3 in it.that was a first for me.
Re: stock recoil bolt nut
Yeah, if it was up to me I'd call it a strengthening lug, not a recoil lug or cross-bolt. The name makes it sound like it is related to recoil rather than preventing a potential by-product of recoil. Ishapore bolt is already taken
You see in this world there are two kinds of people my friend, those with loaded guns... and those who dig. You dig.

Re: stock recoil bolt nut
The protrusion on the bottom of the receiver transfers the recoil into the "recoil bolt". The recoil bolt transfers the recoil into the stock at that point. If it was not in there, the recoil would go to the tang of the receiver and into the stock at that point. That would be like driving a wedge into the end grain of a piece of wood. Kind of like splitting wood.
If the recoil lug is not adjusted correct, sometime you will see a split at the end of the tang going back. But it can be from a bad stock also.
That is my understanding of why it was there. The first Mosins did not have a recoil bolt and they destroyed a lot of stocks. The second version had wooden ones in. Then finally metal.
