About how many rounds do you guys shoot in your .22 magnum rifles, before you use copper solvent on your bores.

Re: Cleaning.
I shoot the rifle, when I am done I clean the rifle. 22. mag is expensive so I might shoot ten, twenty rounds then switch to my regular .22 .
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

The rifle may sit for years before I use it again, it must be cleaned before being stored away.

And when it comes out again from long term storage, it should be cleaned before use if the barrel was oiled.Junk Yard Dog wrote:The rifle may sit for years before I use it again, it must be cleaned before being stored away.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Now that feller is a fart smeller. No, Don't snort the Hoppes. Use in a well ventilated area. Read the warnings. If you must, savor a little lemon oil or Ode de leather sling is nice. I love the smell of a hot rifle on a cool morning.Junk Yard Dog wrote:Huffing Hoppes? To your original question, I found this thread on RFC. http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/sh ... 248&page=2 Opinions seem to vary. Sounds like every cleaning thread ever.

Yep, I feel the same about .22s. I am afraid to open the action on some of them.Sonny wrote:I seldom clean rimfires..if needed then yeah but otherwise..

Re: Cleaning.
.22 magnums are different from other rimfires in that they shoot actual copper jacketed bullets, whereas .22lr and others shoot wax lubed bullets. I think they need to be cleaned more often than a .22 lr, although with their relatively low velocity (as compared to .22 centerfires} the copper depositing is probably not bad.
