Palmetto State AR-15

Post by tjtM38 »

I broke down and got another AR-15. This one was bought in pieces, but it is pretty much all Palmetto State. I wanted something with a 20-inch barrel and A2 buttstock in 5.56. The lower is multi-cal with a standard fire control group. The upper has a 1 in 7" twist barrel. This AR is kind of a clone of the M16A4 with detachable carry handle. I understand that rifle is on it's way out of the military, as the services no longer see a need for the longer barrel. Comments please; I haven't posted in a while. Happy New Year everybody.

I like it. Nice clean old school look and feel.

I've thought about my next AR build being with an A2 stock myself.

Nice. It looks like the one I built.

I'm considering doing a retro build myself just as sort of throwback to the old M16 that I was originally issued way back in 1979, I see that Brownells is carrying pretty much everything one would need to put one together.

I found an original FNH m16 barrel and hand guard then went from there with mostly DPMS parts. The stripped upper receiver is not marked, but might be an Olympic. Whatever it is, it all seems to work pretty well.

Millman, your bayonet has caught my eye never knowing one would fit the AR15 rifle. Just a short run downstairs showed mine having probably the same type fit for the end of the knife. Does using the bayonet require an exact length barrel ? In my picture my barrel looks to be a slight longer..

The bayo requires a certain length from the lug to the end of the barrel. I think the bayonet would go on yours, but the barrel might stick out to almost the end of the bayo.

Here is another pic with the bayonet. Unfortunately I included the bayo that is shown in a trade to a buddy. I need to get another one.

I found a pic that shows how a bayonet fits on the 20 inch vs the 16 inch. IMHO it looks kinda odd on the 16.

I have one on the way now. This is not a bad price.

Millman, I just measured my barrel and it's 16" total length. From where the pictures shows the ring sitting correct on the flash hider I'm measuring around 7 1/4 " to where the end on the knife handle locks on the front sight mount....
I think I'll go ahead and order one up and yes I feel that's a good price. In the past few years I've tried to find bayonets for most all of my surplus rifles and the prices like the rifles are going up everyday.
Thanks so much for the information.

My replacement bayonet arrived today. It has "Trp F 2/107" written on the back of the scabbard, and 17 on the front. I assume the 17 was a rack # or some such, but can any of you veterans translate the other writing? I will post pics this evening on a new thread.

I like it! I have the same basic rifle with an Anderson lower... Hoping to get to building it after renovating the new house.
