Chinese sks with a blade bayonet?

Post by Rustynail »

For all you sks pros. I stopped by my local pawn shop today and something caught my eye. It was a Chinese sks with a red star scope (4x I think) along with red star receiver scope mount which was new to me. What I really noticed was the blade bayonet with the correct stock. I have seen/owned a good many sks but never one with a blade bayonet. What gives? Did I pass up anything special?

The scope is a bubba add-on. The first few years of type 56s had a blade bayonet then they switched to the spike type.

I don't think you missed something special, especially if the original receiver cover is not present.

Yeah we figured the scope and mount wasn't stock. It was just the blade bayonet that intrigued me. What would a all original 56 run me? I've got the fever now

$350 and up. Don't go for the scoped SKS idea, milsurp SKS shoot better with the original sights.

We need a "Like " button.. :D :D

It's true tho.. Some guy was at the range with a fancy smancy scoped SKS and I was getting better groups at 100 yards with iron sights than he was getting with a 4x scope mounted on his dust cover.
So he says "But mine looks better"... Yup....here's your sign..

Ok well I went back the next day and it was gone, may of been worth it for 250 (what I was going to offer). On another note I stopped by the next pawn shop further down and they have a paratrooper model. It has no bayonet but looks like it may take a blade style. Pinned barrel, jungle stock, and a 9 digit serial with no Chinese characters? Imported by norinco what gives? Hope someone can help with this.

If its got a triangle / 26 and 9 digits its probably an early 60'd type 56. Maybe the stock has been swapped. With matching numbers that's a good deal.

All matching numbers except for the fixed mag is missing. There is no triangle 26 just some letters DP or DB something of that nature.

They took the bayonet off the Paratroopers when they imported them into the US. I'm not sure if it is a Calif thing or Fed thing, but if you put one back on it, you could have a problem. Something tells me that is a Calif thing, but I'm not positive.

Also, the bayonet (if you can get one and they do sell them) is shorter. Can't remember if it is a spike or blade. I'll look at home when I get there.

The bayonet is a California thing. Might also be a CT, MA, NJ and NY thing, but I’m not too familiar with the laws of those states. I believe that the bayonets were removed to comply with the 1994 Crime Bill-a.k.a. 18 USC Section 921(30)(B)(iii). As that section expired in 2004, I don’t believe that the federal government is too worried about folks reinstalling bayonets.

I would pass on the "Paratrooper" as well.

There are plenty of military SKS rifles on the market, the "Paratrooper" was a commercial model and the name was a sales gimmick. If you do your homework, you should find a lot of nice SKS rifles in the three hundred to three fifty range. I was in a shop a couple of weeks ago that had a half dozen Norinco offerings, gathering dust at $329.00 ea. I passed on a craked stock offering at $225.00 very recently.
