How long was that for? About 4-5 years correct?Junk Yard Dog wrote:That and Ol' man Burns got busted and lost the FFL causing his stock of milsurps to sit in limbo for some years before his wife and kid got permission to sell them off.

No, many more years then that. His wife sold them for almost 10 year (well, his wife and son).capt14k wrote:How long was that for? Possible they were selling those M39's before 2004 (and probably were). I only have records of them from 2003 on and they were selling those M39's then. So it possible they sold before 2004. But I can say for sure they sold them till 2015.capt14k wrote:[I meant 4-5 years they weren't selling. I thought they were importer in 1982. Problems happened in 1988 and then selling resumed in early 90s.

They have two sons. I think it is Bill Jr and Chris. John may have been Bill Sr Brother.dolk wrote:dolk wrote:Bill Burns Sr. (Maybe John?)

I purchased one of these later imported M39s. SOG was selling them for a great price and not sorted at all. There were Tikkas, B barrels, Round receivers, and any and all types. These would have never went through Burns as they knew what they are and would have sorted them and priced accordingly.capt14k wrote:I'm definitely at least a decade off. Finns didn't start surplusing the M/39 til 1986. Burns bought the last big batch of 12,900 from Tennessee Guns in 2007.
I thought Burns imported an earlier batch with another importer in I guess it was 1992. ZeeBill would likely remember best. He was dealing with a lot of the big players in that area.

Yes Riihimäki is the commercial proof house. However it is only put on CIP member state rifles sold to the commercial market which would be in Europe except for UAE, but they didn't join til after 2008. Being a commercial proof mark it doesn't have as much to do with the Army Depots as it does with commercial sales. You are correct that it would have been stamped after leaving Army Depot, but it really was stamped before commercial sales to other European CIP Member Countries. Thank you for providing the additional info.Lee-online wrote:The laser etched mark is a Riihimäki CIP proof stamp. Done after released from the Army depots to the civilian market.

I just looked in my book, the The M39 was designed around the 7.62x53R loaded with the D-166 bullet, being marked 53R confused both the sellers, SOG and buyers like me. It is the same as all other M39s.
Here is the 53R number for those who haven't seen it.
