Hi Everyone. I recently purchased 5 cans of surplus .30-06 ammo from SOG. I first purchased one to see what quality/make the ammo was. I was pleasantly surprised that the can was close to 50% US non-corrosive ammo; WRA 56, TW 53, RA 54, SL 55, & LC 67,68,69. The other 50% was KA 69-73. So naturally I went and ordered 4 more! However, I wasn't quite as fortunate with the other 4, they were all KA 69-73 (well except for one round of SL 43 that is). SOG advertised the cans as 270 rounds +/- which was pretty accurate (294, 280, 272, 271, & 250)
I'm new to the KA .30-06 world but from everything I've read online it seems to be ok to run through my Garand, just makes for some extra cleaning. Anyone know some more details about this ammo? It all appears to have been linked at one time. I assume for use in M1919s? One of the cans has LMG written on it, all have linked on them.
Here are some pics. Two of the rounds, SL 43 and KA 72, have painted tips. AP or Tracer?

I think the orange /red tip is tracer. Just clean your rifle like it is all corrosive.

The KA is Korean surplus. I have a bunch of this stuff; not the best ammo I have put through the Garand, but not bad. I would treat it all as corrosive.

KA = "korrosive ammo". I seem to remember some scuttlebutt in the CMP forums about necks splitting but that's only an issue if you reload it. I shoot it, works fine...just don't forget the gas system when you're cleaning up after using this stuff.

I think some is berdan primed, more trouble than it's worth to reload. Don't these have the three tiny crimps on the primer pocket ?

I meant a Berdan primed round, has the 3 little crimps. To reload the pocket has to be milled back out and other steps done that most people won't fool with. Some of you guys that reload tell us if this is right.MosinMan45 wrote:No I don’t believe they do, at least the batch I have doesn’t

Not all berdan primed has the crimps. But yes usually that's a good sign. In this case though if this is the same stuff it's boxer primed.
