Not my buck....but
It's still nice to see a pic of a friends buck that he shot with a milsurp.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I hope that's the exit wound from a quartering to shot. Nice buck, great rifle!

Same thing I was thinking. It looks like someone needs some more range time.entropy wrote:I hope that's the exit wound from a quartering to shot. Nice buck, great rifle!

Well I wasn't there but this is what buddy told me and I have no reason to doubt him.SA1911a1 wrote:Same thing I was thinking. It looks like someone needs some more range time.entropy wrote:I hope that's the exit wound from a quartering to shot. Nice buck, great rifle!
He seen a doe step out from the trees and he immediately dropped to one knee.Next second out comes this buck right behind her. They were walking towards him but were just on a slight angle. He shot the buck in the chest, took out the right lung, creased the top of the heart and well you can see the exit wound.
He did put a hole in the paunch but he washed the cavity out with snow right after he gutted him so no problem there.
Told me the distance was 120 paces. So if he was going to BS me it would have been a running offhand shot at 200 yards.
btw..he was using Norma 180gr softpoint Oryx ammo and as you can see that stopped the buck in his tracks.
So if you ask me he made an excellent shot and had very little damage to meat. :thumbsup
EDIT...Dare I say it looks like someone needs more hunting time.
Re: Not my buck....but
Yes, it looks consistent with what he told you. Nice shot!

Re: Not my buck....but
Looks and sounds like a heck of a shot to me.
The deer down South are the size of large dogs so maybe that is why there was some discrepancy [emoji6]

I can’t wait to get in the woods behind my house. I’ve got a similar scenario playing out on my game cameras and regularly sucking up acorns. Although they’re southern dog sized deer. They still taste good.
