No2 MkIV Enfield

Post by Greasemonkey »

I don't see these to often, so when the opportunity showed it's self recently, I took it. I went to view some weapons at a local auction joint, and as I was walking around looking and snooping, I heard a guy say to his buddy, "that Enfield is rough, the magazine guts are missing". I went and looked, sure enough, it was a single shot Enfield .22 trainer, the dummy magazine holds the empties.. Converted from a 1919 No1 MkIII SMLE. It has a Parker Hale rellined barrel as I understand.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Fantastic! I'd love to run across one of those at some point. I really like training rifles.

I remember when there was a wheelbarrow full of ignorance concerning these rifles. People would overlook them just because they were " only a single shot .22" That's how I got my unissued Lithgow, it sat wanting on the shelf for months while the clean .303's sold. The price came down and I was all over that like fly's on shit, now of course the seller probably contemplates suicide when he remembers what he sold it for.
