Projectile for M1A

Post by qz2026 »

I'm going to star loading 7.62x51 for my M1A. I've got around 500 lake city cases once fired (I know because I shot them...). Any way I am struggling with what projectile to use. Chad from IV8888 did a great series on reloading for this rifle but recommends 150-168 gr projectiles. My Lake City used 147 grain projectiles and it shoots very well. I've noticed that are several companies out there that sell these: 147 gr FMJBT. They really all look the same to me.

I'm thinking that some are better than others quality wise. If you have loaded 147 gr projectiles for the M1A, which one would you recommend? I suppose I could take my chances. If the bullet doesn't perform, I could always use it for one of my other rifles that uses .308.

I think I would start with the recommended weight. He may have some good reason for it. If I were gonna go the reg 147 route, unless I was trying to set records, I would use the cheapest I could find. If tight groups were my game, I would use Sierra Match Kings.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I'm very happy with these, pretty much everyone who buys them is too from what they are saying.
